Description
The Production Laborer position at the Vicksburg Mill is an entry-level position for placement in the mill's production departments. Production Laborers will participate in a 3-4 week orientation, New Hire Integration, at the mill when first hired to learn basic and fundamental knowledge about International Paper and the Vicksburg Mill including safety, team work, engagement, communication, process understanding, and basic mechanical and electrical understanding. At the completion of the orientation, the Production Laborer will be transferred to one of the production departments where he/she will begin to learn, train and certify on the first job in the respective line of progression. In their role, production laborers:
Must work safely in an industrial environment
Demonstrate ability to learn and understand the process in the production areas
Train and certify on the jobs in a production line of progression. Training will include on-the-job, classroom and computer-based training.
Perform manual work in the department including: turning valves, housekeeping, cutting cores (paper), leveling chip piles (Woodyard), operating a forklift (paper/shipping), running quality tests in the lab
Troubleshoot process problems
Work in a multi-disciplined team environment that emphasizes a high level of communication and interpersonal skills
The Production Laborer will advance and promote to the different jobs in the department's line of progression as vacancies arise and will not stay in the Laborer classification.
Starting pay is $22.63/hr.
Qualifications: Minimum high school graduate, GED or equivalent work experience must be:
At least 18 years of age
Eligible for employment in the U.S.
Must be willing to meet the following requirements
Undergo a drug screen for illicit use of drugs as a condition of employment
Submit to periodic drug screens as a condition of employment
Work any shift and/or a rotating shift schedule
Work overtime on a regular basis and with last minute notification
Work holidays and/or weekends on a regular basis
Wear required safety equipment
Operate or work in industrial conditions (may be warm/hot, dusty/dirty, around hazardous chemicals, noise, heavy machinery or elevated working surfaces (with proper safety training and safety protection)
