Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) PhysicianThe Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Physician provides comprehensive, non-surgical care to patients with physical impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities resulting from injury, illness, or chronic conditions. This role focuses on restoring function, improving mobility, reducing pain, and enhancing quality of life through interdisciplinary, patient-centered care.Key ResponsibilitiesEvaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, and functional impairmentsDevelop and implement individualized rehabilitation treatment plansProvide inpatient rehabilitation care, including medical management and functional oversightProvide outpatient evaluations and longitudinal follow-up as applicableCoordinate care with physical, occupational, and speech therapistsManage spasticity, pain, and mobility limitations using non-operative approachesPerform procedures within scope of practice, such as joint injections or electrodiagnostic studies, if applicableCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams including nursing, case management, and consulting physiciansParticipate in interdisciplinary team conferences and care planning meetingsEducate patients and families on rehabilitation goals, prognosis, and recovery plansEnsure timely, accurate, and compliant medical documentationSupport quality improvement initiatives and patient safety standardsPractice SettingInpatient rehabilitation units and/or outpatient rehabilitation clinicsMay include consultative services within acute care hospitalsSchedule and coverage based on practice modelPatient PopulationAdult and/or pediatric patients with rehabilitation needsConditions may include stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, musculoskeletal disorders, amputations, and chronic painQualificationsMD or DO from an accredited medical schoolCompletion of an accredited Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency programBoard certified or board eligible in Physical Medicine and RehabilitationEligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the practicing stateDEA registration or eligibilitySkills & CompetenciesBroad clinical expertise in rehabilitation medicineStrong functional assessment and care coordination skillsExcellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration abilitiesCommitment to patient-centered, evidence-based careAbility to manage complex rehabilitation casesWork EnvironmentRehabilitation-focused clinical settingMultidisciplinary, team-based care modelEmphasis on functional outcomes and patient independence
