Job Description:The User Services Librarian manages the daily operations of the J. Thomas McCarthy Library, including setting hours, overseeing staffing, and ensuring library users' needs are being met. The position coordinates with Facilities and Campus Security to maintain a safe, clean, and accessible environment, and oversees library spaces and physical collections. Working under the Associate Director of User Services and Academic Engagement, the role develops and maintains policies for circulation, reserves, interlibrary loan, and other user services, and ensures documentation is current and accessible. Reporting to the Associate Director of User Services and Academic Engagement.Work Location: Doheny Campus (Downtown Los Angeles)Start Date: ImmediatelyApplication Deadline: Open until filledAnnual Salary Rate: $70,304.00Monthly Salary Rate: $5,858.67Hiring salary can be above the posted pay range if candidate's qualifications are determined to be above the minimum requirements of the position description.Duties and Responsibilities:Serves as the on-site manager of the McCarthy Library at the Doheny campus, ensuring optimal services, facilities, and resources are provided to usersWorks with User Services staff to determine the J. Thomas McCarthy Library's hours and staffing; provides direction on, and participates in, hiring and training student employeesSupervises two employees and, indirectly, approximately 25 student employees who provide user services at the circulation deskServes as the J. Thomas McCarthy Library's liaison to Facilities Management and Campus Security, ensuring that the library's facilities are clean, safe, and accessibleManages the physical spaces and collections at the McCarthy Library, in consultation with librarians and colleaguesUnder the direction of the Associate Director of User Services and Academic Engagement, develops policies and procedures for circulation services and statistics, course reserves and e-reserves, interlibrary loan services, and general user services across both campus librariesDocuments and maintains policies and procedures in a shared platform accessible to all library staffCollects and analyzes statistics for the assessment of services and spaces; compiles data for IPEDS, the ACRL Benchmark survey, and the MSMU Libraries annual reportCoordinates support for the execution of events in the McCarthy LibraryServes as the lead for the integrated library system's fulfillment, resource sharing, user management, and analytics modules; monitors, troubleshoots, and makes recommendations about the functions of the integrated library system (ILS)Ensures McCarthy Library staff and student workers are trained on ILS functions and able to perform circulation and resource sharing tasks adequatelyOther Duties and Responsibilities:Collaborates with, and supports, librarians and staff at both campus libraries to ensure optimal service is given to all members of the MSMU communityCovers shifts at the circulation desk, as neededMaintains a consistent presence in the library during normal business hoursWeekends and evenings may occasionally be requiredRuns reports, analyzes operations, and creates summaries for annual reportsPerforms other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of User Services and Academic EngagementRequirements:Knowledge:Standard policies and procedures for library access services and operations, including all aspects of circulation, course reserves, interlibrary loan, collection management, stacks maintenance, and security of buildings and materialsStandard structures of information description and access in integrated library systems, library services platforms, and discovery toolsWorking knowledge of statistics, spreadsheets, and data analysisAbilities and Skills:Engaging and effective leadership skills, strong interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to motivate others and work in a team-based environmentA passion for working with students and creating communityFluent use of integrated library systems, and the ability to master new technologies quicklyAbility to retrieve and analyze data, assess operations and services, and implement improvementsUse of library technologies such as online cataloging systems, databases, and digital collaboration toolsExcellent written, oral, and presentation skills; English comprehension and communication proficiency required, Spanish desiredExcellent customer service skillsDemonstrated success managing projects and leading teamsDemonstrated commitment to inclusive excellenceAbility to maintain a consistent presence in the library during normal business hoursEducation:Masters of Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited university, or equivalent combination of education and experienceExperience:A minimum of one year of user services experience in a library setting, preferably two or moreApplication Instructions:Please submit a resume and cover letter.Applicants must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
