Senior Java Developer

Summary Senior Java Developer is primarily responsible for efficiently developing, implementing and maintaining quality presentation and logic tiers however solid experience with persistence and data tiers is required. You will work directly with users to clarify project specifications and test your code. We are looking for someone who has expertise and enjoys working in the full software development life-cycle from concept through design to testing. The position is best suited to someone who is highly analytical, creative, productive, and possesses well-honed communication skills. This is an in-office, full-time position (not an opportunity for contract / remote work). We are an equal opportunity employer. Responsibilities The Senior Java developer will work as a full stack developer and therefore must handle both front end and back end business logic. The main duties of the Java Developer include developing, implementing and maintaining the quality and agile software for construction and property administration as per user requirements. The Senior Java developer also must work closely with users (construction and property business teams) in order to understand and execute the program code and software design need. The Developer must design user-friendly software, the requirements of which can later be changed or updated by the user. The Developer must design the module, maintain it and provide documentation whenever needed. All modules designed by the developer must be according to JEE standards. These are a set of standards for Java enterprise development which helps us create systems that are maintainable by the rest of the development team. The developer should collaborate with the IT team on all phases of SDLC (System Development Life Cycle). Communication will be verbal, via emails and via google instant messaging. The Developer will design the UI (User Interface) using front end technology such as HTML 5, CSS 3, PrimeFaces 6, jQuery and JavaScript. Specifically, the developer will create beautiful and functional screens through which our end users will interact with our system. All interaction will be from a web browser. The Developer is required to design PostgreSQL database and implement it using Hibernate or JPA ORM according to specifications. The developer must have a fundamental understanding of databases and how they relate to the data they contain. The databases must be optimized in such a way as to be efficient as possible and not to create a bottleneck which could potentially slow down any of our processes. The Developer is also responsible for the data migration from a Progress 4GL database to PostgreSQL in order to port a legacy system. We have 20 years of previous development in this legacy system and as such it contains a wealth of business logic which cannot be lost. It will be the developer's responsibility to implement the same functionality in the new, modern JPA-based JEE application. The property and construction software systems require automatic mailing in some areas so the developer is responsible for providing automatic mailing from the system using Java Mail API. The Developer must develop and maintain web domains and web pages for Marathon Construction, Marathon Telemetry, Marathon Management and their websites along with Marathon Computer System's website. The Developer will be responsible for continuous integration to production. The developer must design and generate complex reports for construction and property management. The Developer should perform Unit testing using JUnit or other test automation frameworks. These are common and standard methods of creating repeatably consistent and reliable software components. The Developer will be responsible for maintaining the existing system, fixing bugs, maintaining code quality and optimize source code and the existing system.
