Foreman, Plant Operations
Position SummaryWill report directly to the Manager of Plant Operations (POM). Delivers supervision to include disciplinary action with the POM and the Director, coordination of the maintenance, repair, PM's, inspections and installations of Mechanical Systems, HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, and supporting infrastructure for the SJC Health System. Assumes "on-call" duties according to rotation or schedule and flexible schedule to serve the needs of the hospital. Provides technical direction, coordination and expertise to HVAC Technicians, Plumbers, Plant Operators and Electricians as necessary to complete work orders, projects, and assignments within established timeliness. Responsible for reviewing purchase requests and managing systemwide parts inventory levels within the Plant Operations department. Responsible for authorizing contractor/vendor service when required. Executes the energy management directives of the plant, as authorized by the POM, through managing, controlling and monitoring the hospital's Building Automation System, including tracking and reporting as required. Responsible for ensuring work is performed in a safe environment for co-workers, vendors, and contractors and reports safety concerns to the POM or Director of Plant Operations immediately. Equipment responsibilities include but not limited to boilers, chillers, cooling towers, domestic water, well water, distribution pumps, fire pumps, medical air, air compressors, plumbing fixtures/components, electrical fixtures/components, HVAC Systems/Controls, Ice Machines, Refrigeration units, Steam distribution and hot water. Familiar with The Joint Commission Accreditation standards, CMS, NFPA, ASHRAE standards, State and local agency requirements. Administers performance reviews, appraisals, and disciplinary processes in accordance to HR policies and procedures. Foreman will be assigned to a specific hospital or oversee a specific part of Engineering operations. Assignments will be determined by the Director of Engineering. EducationAssociates or Trade School Certification - PreferredExperience8-10 Years related field - RequiredLicense & CertificationNone Required Core Job FunctionsSupervises Plant Operators, Plumbers and HVAC technicians and ensures assigned work orders are completed according to regulatory requirements and established time lines. On a daily basis, forecasts and prioritizes tasks, work order requirements and coordinates resources, including the activities of co-workers, vendors and contractors as necessary to complete tasks and projects on time.Approves all purchases for parts and supplies requested by HVAC Technicians, Plumbers, and Plant Operators in order to control inventory levels and utilize resources effectively across the health system.Assesses daily workload and assigned tasks of Plumbers, HVAC Technicians, and Plant Operators to determine contractor and vendor service requirements. If contractor service is authorized, all completed work (Materials and Labor) must be carefully reviewed and verified by the Foreman.Responsible for promoting a culture of safety to HVAC Technicians, Plumbers, and Plant Operators. Co-workers must be safety minded and take immediate action steps to mitigate identified hazards and report them immediately.Completes evaluations and disciplinary to co-workers when required and develops performance improvement processes and action plans as appropriate.
