Provides escort services, and other basic public assistance services as needed, and performs routine security and public safety patrol duties within assigned area. Remains alert to emergency situations and provides first-line response, emergency management, and/or referral if required.Required QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalentAbility to successfully conduct security patrols without direct supervisionAbility to communicate effectively, both orally and in writingAbility to complete routine paperwork and safely operate a motor vehicleAbility to understand and follow specific instructions and proceduresStrong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientationAbility to react calmly and effectively in emergency situationsAbility to understand, follow, and enforce safety codes, regulations, and proceduresAbility to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnelSkill in performing building security and lock proceduresKnowledge of the basic operations of computers and emailAbility to walk considerable distances and perform moderate physical activityMust possess a valid Texas Driver's License, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College's insurance policy Preferred QualificationsEssential FunctionsPatrols assigned area on foot, in assigned motor vehicle, or other specialized vehicle to ensure personal, building, and equipment securityExamines doors, windows, and gates to ensure security; uses College keys to open and close buildings; monitors closed buildings for unauthorized persons and/or suspicious activitiesInforms and warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articlesProvides escort services for visitors, students, staff, and faculty, as necessary; provides other public assistance, such as lockout services, jump-starts, and routine informationWatches for and reports irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations; contacts emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel, as requiredRemains alert for the presence of unauthorized persons and/or security code violators; approaches suspicious persons and/or notifies police as appropriate; may confront and/or detain violators, as required, until police arrivePerforms periodic checks of street lights to ensure proper functioning; reports malfunctions as requiredMay provide safe and efficient transportation to Midland College employees and/or visitors, as requested, using a College vehiclePatrols and monitors assigned parking areas to provide public security and assistanceMaintains security controls of issued College keys; safeguards and controls issued equipmentPrepares routine, standardized reportsMonitors and closes the gates on South Foundation during inclement weatherMonitors all Midland College campuses, including the Main campus, Cogdell, and ATCOther duties as assignedPhysical DemandsAbility to walk considerable distances and operate College vehicles in a safe mannerModerate physical activity; requires handling of average-weight objects, standing or walking for extended periods of time, and climbing of stairs and laddersUse of manual dexterityThe work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautionsWork involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noisesWork primarily in an outdoor environmentThe person in this position frequently communicates with others verbally and electronically; must be able to exchange accurate informationSpecific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focusThe person in this position needs to occasionally move or drive to other locations on and off campusSecurity SensitivityAll Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information.
