OverviewThe Category Manager (CM) is responsible for developing and executing strategies to maximize the performance of the department. This role requires an understanding of market trends, consumer preferences, and supplier relationships to drive sales, optimize inventory, and enhance customer experience. Furthermore, the CM plans and executes all aspects of product development policies, programs, objectives, and initiatives with oversight from the Director of Beer/Wine. The CM is accountable for achieving sales/margin goals, researching new products and product enhancements that meet the expectations of Sprouts minimum standards. The CM analyzes past buying trends, sales records, price, and quality of merchandise to determine assortment.Essential FunctionsDevelop and achieve budget, sales, gross margins, and profit goals for the categoryIdentify growth opportunities within the category and develop actionable plansReview all weekly, monthly, and quarterly trends to inform decision makingDevelop category strategies that keep Sprouts on the cutting edge of the industryRegularly incorporate new products into the overall product mix while removing underperformersCreate and present regular updates on category performance to senior managementMaintain awareness of Sprouts marketing strategies and competitive activityOversee all category marketing plans and advertising, including weekly flyer, monthly promotions, e-comm, etc.Establish retail and promotional pricing to meet budgetary goalsEnsure that all federal, state, and company regulations and standards are metHelp outline and follow Sprouts' standards for all products carried in the department and assure that vendor's products meet those standards on quality and valueDevelop and maintain strong vendor relationshipsPartner with sales, marketing, and operations teams to ensure cohesive execution of category strategiesRespond to vendor/customer issues as needed on a timely basisCoordinate and source vendor participation for new store openings and resetsSupport and act as a liaison between Sprouts stores and vendors to assure quality products and department standards are being deliveredProvide the stores with relevant data to make informed decisions about the department and how to maximize profitabilityDevelop and communicate easy to use weekly merchandising plans and directives for merchandiser and store use #LI-CS1 Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Physical RequirementsPreferred bachelor's degree in business or related field with a minimum of three to five (3-5) years of departmental experience, with experience as Merchandiser or Manager preferredRequires long-term strategic and financial planning skillsPrevious buying/negotiating experience requiredWorking knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and PowerBIAbility to preserve confidentiality of information, communicate with all levels of management and work within strict time frames and resolute deadlinesGeneral understanding of P/L statements, general ledgers, and marginsSome travel requiredBenefitsIn addition to a rewarding career, Sprouts offers a comprehensive program to help support you and your family.
