Job TypeFull-timeDescriptionPosition OverviewBerkshire County Head Start (BCHS) is seeking a dedicated and flexible Flex Teacher to support high-quality early childhood education across our program. This role plays a key part in creating a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for young children while supporting families as their child's first and most important teachers.The ideal candidate is passionate about early childhood education, adaptable, and committed to fostering inclusive, engaging learning environments.Key ResponsibilitiesChild Development & LearningSupport the implementation of developmentally appropriate activities that promote cognitive, emotional, and physical growthAssist in creating engaging, hands-on learning environments across all developmental domainsEncourage children's exploration, discovery, and independenceSupport social-emotional development through positive guidance and interaction Classroom Support & InteractionFoster inclusive, respectful environments that value diversityPromote positive behavior and respectful peer interactionsAssist teaching staff in delivering individualized learning experiences Health, Safety & NutritionMaintain a clean, safe, and healthy classroom environmentSupport children's self-care routines, including handwashing and hygieneFollow safety protocols, including authorized child release proceduresAssist with food handling and nutrition education activities Program SupportAssist with transportation duties (e.g., bus monitoring) as assignedSupport family engagement practices and inclusive program policiesMaintain awareness of children's individual learning plans ProfessionalismMaintain confidentiality of child and family informationModel organizational values and contribute to a positive team culturePerform additional duties as assignedRequirementsQualificationsEducationHigh school diploma or equivalent (required)Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education (preferred) ExperienceMinimum of 2 years working with young childrenExperience in an early childhood setting preferredHead Start experience a plus Skills & AbilitiesStrong communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work both independently and collaborativelyOrganized, flexible, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environmentDemonstrated patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for working with childrenBasic knowledge of child development principlesCommitment to confidentiality and ethical practices PreferredBilingual (Spanish, Portuguese, or Haitian Creole strongly encouraged)Massachusetts EEC Teacher CertificationSalary Description
