A full rewrite is recommended before applying.Job DescriptionEmbedded Software Engineer Location: Sterling, Virginia Work Arrangement: On-site Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to design and develop reliable embedded solutions for advanced energy-management and power-electronics systems. This individual will create firmware supporting power monitoring, equipment controls, signal acquisition, and energy calculations while ensuring accuracy, performance, and scalability. Key Responsibilities Design and develop firmware for embedded power-monitoring, switching-control, and energy-measurement systems. Create and optimize digital signal-processing algorithms for real-time applications. Develop solutions using TI DSPs, including C2000 and TMS320F28x devices, ARM Cortex-M/R/A microcontrollers, and FPGA-based platforms. Interface with high-resolution analog-to-digital converters and analog front ends to capture voltage and current signals. Implement industrial communication technologies, including RS-485, Modbus RTU/TCP, CAN, Ethernet, UDP/TCP/IP, MQTT, SNMP, and custom protocols. Maintain synchronization and timing alignment across distributed acquisition and control nodes. Partner with hardware engineers throughout system integration, verification, and testing. Evaluate system behavior and improve firmware performance using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and in-circuit debugging tools. Produce clear technical documentation covering system interfaces, data structures, communication methods, and integration requirements. Required Qualifications Six or more years of embedded software development experience within control, measurement, power, or energy-related systems. Advanced proficiency with embedded C and C++. Experience developing bare-metal and/or real-time operating system applications. Practical knowledge of digital signal processing and energy-measurement algorithms. Hands-on experience with ARM-based microcontrollers, TI DSPs, and FPGA platforms. Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols and hardware buses. Demonstrated ability to debug complex firmware and resolve hardware-software integration issues. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with power and energy standards such as IEC 62053, IEC 61000, and ANSI C12.20. Experience with FPGA or HDL-based signal processing. Knowledge of multicore architectures and separating control functions from metrology tasks. Understanding of timing-critical systems and hardware-software co-design principles.
