Component Engineer
Job DescriptionTitle: Component EngineerLocation: Irvine, CA (100% Onsite from Day 1)Department: Supply Chain / OperationsContract 12+ MonthsJob SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Component Engineer to support product development, design transfer, and manufacturing readiness activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in component engineering, lifecycle management, manufacturability analysis, and cross-functional collaboration within regulated environments, preferably the medical device industryKey ResponsibilitiesDVT & Design Release SupportParticipate in DVT readiness and design reviews.Identify component risks, manufacturability concerns, and documentation gaps.Support design transfer activities and manufacturing release readiness.Component Risk & Lifecycle ManagementEvaluate component lifecycle status (Active, NRND, EOL).Assess supplier risk, availability, and sourcing challenges.Recommend alternate components and risk mitigation strategies.Support release of both OTS (Off-The-Shelf) and custom parts.Mechanical Drawing Review & ManufacturabilityReview engineering drawings for dimensional accuracy, GD&T (ASME Y14.5), and tolerance stack-up risks.Evaluate manufacturability based on supplier capabilities.Identify over-constrained tolerances and yield risks.Provide Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) recommendations.Cross-Functional CollaborationServe as a liaison between Engineering and Supply Chain teams.Support supplier technical discussions and qualification activities.Assist in resolving build issues and early production challenges.Identify long lead-time components and work with suppliers on alternate sourcing options.Data & Documentation ManagementSupport component lifecycle advancement within Propel PLM.Ensure specifications, compliance documentation, and approved sourcing are complete.Maintain data consistency across Propel and NetSuite.Support traceability, audit readiness, and compliance requirements.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.5+ years of experience in Component Engineering, Hardware Engineering, or a related role. Experience supporting product development through DVT and design release phases.Experience working in regulated environments (Medical Device industry preferred).Strong collaboration experience with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain teams.Technical SkillsStrong understanding of electronic, electromechanical, and mechanical components.Experience evaluating component lifecycle status (Active, NRND, EOL) and supply chain risk.Ability to analyze datasheets and perform fit, form, and function evaluations. Ability to read and review mechanical drawings and engineering documentation.Working knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5).Understanding of tolerance stack-up analysis and assembly impact.Familiarity with manufacturing processes includingMachining InjectionMolding Sheet Metal FabricationExperience with design transfer processes and production ramp-up activities
