PRIMARY PURPOSE
The High School Assistant Drill Team Instructor assists in developing a performing group for public appearances and competitive events in keeping with District philosophies, policies, procedures and programs.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Preferred
One year of student teaching or approved internship
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
MAJOR REPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Assists with coordinating with the Director of Performing and Visual Arts, and the Head High School Drill Team Instructor to meet District objectives.
Assists with planning a curriculum in the training classes that develops physical conditioning and dance ability for performances.
Assists with developing and administering a demerit system to encourage appropriate behavior.
Helps in establishing and make known guidelines for acceptable behavior, appearance, attendance and grades in keeping with the drill team constitution.
Helps in maintaining an open record keeping system and a consistent system of penalties.
Helps in maintaining a system for grade checks.
Assists in administering the details of drill team business.
Assists in communicating with prospective drill team members and parents regarding the expenses and the time commitment necessary for membership.
Assists in handling the budgeted funds and activity money associated with drill team expenses.
Assists in overseeing the selecting, purchasing, maintenance and storing of uniforms and props.
Assists with schedules and supervises all activities including tryouts, officer elections, uniform days, pep rally and game performances, other public performances, competitive events, practices and summer camp.
Assists with plans for transportation and supervision of traveling to games, performances, competitions.
Assists in planning drill team performances.
Cooperates with the High School Head Band Director to present game performances.
Assists in planning and directing performances for public appearances and competitive events.
Demonstrates and encourages good sportsmanship, leadership and a sense of group pride.
Complies with the job description for the classroom teacher.
Performs other appropriate duties as assigned by the principal.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. Frequent district and occasional statewide travel; prolonged and irregular hours; outdoor and indoor work; exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather. Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
