No Paid vacation (Contract position);Employment Type: 1-year contract (Possible multi-year extension and conversion to Full time based on performance)Controls Software & Hardware Design Engineer – Nuclear ControlsTECHNICAL SKILLSMust Have4+ years of experience with Controls Cabinet Design Software2+ years of experience with Controls Code and/or HMI DevelopmentExperience creating and modifying control cabinet designs using 3D modeling and 2D CAD softwareExperience with industrial Distributed Control Systems (DCS), PLCs, and/or HMI developmentExperience with Siemens S7 PLC or comparable industrial PLC platformsKnowledge of industrial networking, including Cisco network switches, Fortinet firewalls, and routersUnderstanding of VMware and Virtual Machine technologiesExperience with Windows and/or Linux thin-client configurationsKnowledge of applicable standards and regulations for control networks and control cabinet designStrong communication, technical documentation, and presentation skillsJOB DESCRIPTIONWe are seeking an experienced Controls Software & Hardware Design Engineer to support the design and implementation of control systems for an advanced nuclear power generation project.The engineer will be responsible for developing control cabinet designs using 3D modeling and 2D CAD tools and may also work with industrial control system development platforms to implement plant control solutions.The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary engineering team consisting of Technical Leads, Principal and Consulting Engineers, Engineering Managers, Project Engineers, and Project Managers.Key ResponsibilitiesCreate and modify control cabinet drawings using 3D and 2D design software tools.Design, develop, and implement control system code using industrial DCS, PLC, HMI, and motor-control platforms.Support controls solutions for safety-related and non-safety-related systems in nuclear power applications.Configure and support network infrastructure, including network switches, firewalls, and routers.Work with VMware, virtual machines, and thin-client solutions across Windows and Linux environments.Coordinate with technical leads, project engineers, project managers, and customers to establish design inputs, scope, engineering labor requirements, schedules, and deliverables.Review, incorporate, and implement project and customer requirements.Ensure engineering deliverables comply with applicable quality assurance requirements, industry standards, and regulations.Support Procurement Engineering teams with procurement package development and vendor documentation reviews.Maintain accountability for project milestones, schedules, customer deliverables, and technical quality.Manage multiple engineering projects and activities simultaneously.Participate in design, development, validation, documentation, and commissioning of control system solutions.Qualification RequirementsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Network Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent relevant industry experience may also be considered.Minimum 4 years of experience in Controls Cabinet Design Software.Minimum 2 years of experience in Controls Code and/or HMI Development.Excellent written, verbal, graphical, documentation, and presentation skills.Preferred QualificationsExperience in the nuclear power industry.Experience with Autodesk Inventor or comparable 3D cabinet modeling tools.Experience with industrial DCS/control system software development.Experience with CIMPLICITY HMI or comparable HMI development platforms.Experience in the industrial controls, energy, or power-generation industry.Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint.Knowledge of engineering design and construction practices.Strong teamwork, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.Ability to quickly learn and apply complex technical information.Citizenship / Export-Control RequirementsCandidates must be U.S. Citizens or U.S. Persons (valid U.S. Permanent Residents/Green Card holders) and must meet applicable U.S. export-control and nuclear technology access requirements, including requirements associated with 10 CFR Part 810.Additional eligibility restrictions may apply based on citizenship or dual-citizenship status involving countries subject to applicable U.S. sanctions or export-control restrictions.Additional Work RequirementsPreference may be given to candidates who can effectively collaborate with engineering teams performing similar work and who are located within reasonable travel distance of Wilmington, NC.Candidates should also be capable of meeting applicable requirements for working with controlled or sensitive U.S. Government information when required.
