We value exceptional people, unwavering integrity, inclusive collaboration, and enduring impact.Location(s): Silver Spring, Maryland (on-site) | National Museum of Health and Medicine (NMHM)Position OffersRegular weekly hours (0730-1630) | Monday - FridayFull benefit program, including: health, PTO, and 401k + contributionRequirementsBachelor's Degree Preferred5 years of experienceSummaryCICONIX, LLC is seeking an AnatomicalLaboratory Specialist with experience in conservation of anatomical specimens, histological preparation and/or necropsy/autopsy assistance to support the National Museum of Health and Medicine (NMHM).About The Role Responsiblefortheroutineconservationofthemuseum’swettissueandhistologicalcollectionsand documentation of conservation activities. Preparesnewwettissueandskeletalpreparationsfollowingmuseumprotocolsandhelpsto develop and refine same. Routinelyworkswithchemicalsandbiohazardousmaterialsinaccordwithmuseumpolicyand procedure as well as federal and state health and safety standards. Assistslabmanagerinconductingregularsafetychecksinanatomicallaboratoriesandhelps ensures the lab remains compliant with relevant health and safety standards. Maintainsstrictinventorycontrolsinrelocatingandtransportingspecimensbetweenthelaband storage areas and documenting work on appropriate forms and databases. Managesequipmentandsuppliesforanatomicallaboratoriesandsubmitspurchaseandservice requests as needed. Examinesspecimensanddeterminesmethodsofpreparationandstainingtobestdemonstrate characteristics to be studied. Work requires thorough knowledge and proficiency in tissue orientation and embedding in paraffinwaxandpropermicrotomyandstainingtechniquesofalltissuetypes,includingbone. Providessupportforrelevantpublicprogramsandexhibitsas required. PerformweeklyoperatorsafetyinspectionsontheEmergencyEyewashandEmergencyShower stations. Receives OSHA required annual physical for lab technician. QualificationsEducation: Four (4) years of study in an accredited college or university in the field of Anatomy, Biology, Physical Anthropology, or a related scientific field. Bachelor's degree preferred. Experience: 5 years of laboratory experience in conservation of anatomical specimens, histological preparation and/or necropsy/autopsy assistance. Extensive knowledge and skill in the applications and methodsusedinthepreservationandfixationoftissuespecimens,processing,embedding,microtomy,and staining. Basic knowledge of biology, chemistry and solution preparation acquired through experience, education and/or on-the-job training. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of all specialized and general laboratory equipment used in the laboratory. Skilled in creation of electronic spreadsheets and updating databases. Occupational health clearance for use of respirator and work within a BSL-2 environment. Security & Background Check: U.S. Citizenship and a successful background investigation are required. Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance. Additional Requirements: Willingness to comply with the g overnment vaccination requirements. Occasional travel may be required.
