Senior Automotive Reliability & EMC Test engineer
Mountain View, CAMarch 23rd, 2026
About us:Aeva is building the next generation of sensing and perception for autonomous vehicles and beyond. With its unique ability to measure instantaneous velocity for each pixel, long-range performance at high resolutions, while being free from LiDAR or sunlight interference, Aeva's 4D LiDAR is built from the ground up at silicon photonics scale for mass-market applications.Role Overview:Aeva is seeking a Senior Automotive Reliability & EMC Test Engineer to own validation and compliance testing for automotive LiDAR systems through DV, PV, and production readiness. This role requires a deep understanding of automotive qualification philosophy, not just test execution. You will be responsible for translating OEM requirements and international standards into defensible test plans, identifying risk early, and ensuring our LiDAR products meet automotive durability, EMC, and functional robustness expectations. This is a hands-on role with high accountability, direct interaction with OEMs and third-party labs, and strong influence on hardware design decisions. What You'll Be Doing:Automotive Reliability & Qualification (≈50%)Own automotive reliability and qualification strategy for LiDAR systems and critical sub-assemblies.Define and execute DV/PV test plans aligned with ISO 16750 (environmental & electrical loads), IEC 60068, OEM-specific durability requirementsLead environmental and life testing including thermal cycling and thermal shock, vibration and mechanical shock, HTOL / HTOE, damp heat, humidity, corrosion, contamination exposureDrive single-fault robustness validation in support of DFMEA and safety concepts.Perform and lead failure analysis, working cross-functionally with EE, ME, optics, firmware, and systems teams.Define pass/fail criteria, degradation limits, and design margins, not just "run the test."Ensure test coverage maps clearly to DFMEA failure modes and OEM expectations.EMC & Electrical Validation (≈50%)Own automotive EMC compliance and robustness testing, including CISPR 25 (emissions & immunity), ISO 11452 (ALSE, BCI, TEM), ISO 7637 (transients), ISO 10605 (ESD), IEC 61000-6-XDefine EMC test modes and operating states aligned with real vehicle use cases.Lead pre-compliance testing and debug, partnering closely with EE and layout teams.Drive EMC mitigation strategy - filtering, grounding, shielding, harnessing, and layout guidancePlan, lead, and technically represent Aeva at third-party EMC test labs.Support OEM EMC reviews, audits, and issue resolution.Program & Cross-Functional OwnershipAct as the automotive validation point person for assigned LiDAR programs.Interface directly with OEM customers, Tier-1s, Third-party test housesEnsure traceability between Requirements - Test plans - Test results - FMEA closureIdentify validation gaps early and push for design or test strategy changes before late-stage surprises. What You Have:BS or MS in Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering5+ years of automotive hardware validation experienceDemonstrated ownership of DV/PV or qualification testing for automotive electronicsStrong working knowledge of ISO 16750, CISPR 25, ISO 11452, ISO 7637Experience supporting OEM technical reviews or auditsComfortable challenging designs based on test data and automotive riskStrong documentation skills (test plans, reports, customer-facing data)Experience with ADAS sensors (LiDAR, radar, camera) or other safety-relevant ECUsPrior experience at an OEM or Tier-1 automotive supplierFamiliarity with DFMEA, single-fault assumptions, and robustness validationExperience coordinating multiple test labs across DV/PV phases$125,800 - $170,200 a yearSalary pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate's starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, certifications, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges are subject to change in the future.
