Hospitalist - FT
Responsible for providing comprehensive care to emergency room and hospitalized patients in a rural healthcare environment, working closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. This position requires strong clinical skills, adaptability, and a commitment to delivering quality care in a community-oriented environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide comprehensive care to hospitalized and emergency room patients.
Conduct initial assessments, including comprehensive medical histories, physical exams, and diagnostic testing for hospitalized patients.
Develop and implement treatment plans, monitor patient progress, and make necessary adjustments.
Provide ongoing management for patients admitted to the hospital, ensuring high-quality care.
Document patient care accurately, including progress notes, orders, and discharge summaries.
Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams and assist with discharge planning.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings and diagnostic results.
Consult with physicians to resolve issues and to obtain and provide patient care input.
Be available for on-call shifts as necessary, providing both inpatient and ER care.
Provide and ensure a therapeutic and a physical safe environment.
Provide emergency care to patients presenting in the ER with various conditions, from routine complaints to life-threatening emergencies.
Stabilize patients and manage acute medical conditions, trauma, and life-threatening emergencies.
Perform procedures commonly required in the ER and assist with more advanced procedures under the guidance of ER physicians.
Provide discharge instructions for patients treated in the ER, ensuring they understand follow-up care and medication instructions.
Educate patients and their families about diagnoses, treatment options, and preventive care strategies
Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and collaborate with other medical staff in both inpatient and emergency settings.
Work with nursing staff to ensure effective communication and coordination of care for both ER and hospitalized patients.
Maintain accurate and timely medical records in compliance with hospital policies and legal requirements.
Provide care appropriate for the patients served based on demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
Assess and interpret data on the patient’s status to identify patients’ requirements relative to their age specific needs and provide care needed as stipulated in departmental policy.

EDUCATION: Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies or Nurse Practitioner program from an accredited program required.
EXPERIENCE: Previous experience as a hospitalist preferred.
PERSONAL JOB-RELATED SKILLS: Knowledge of compliance, healthcare laws, fraud and abuse, Medicare and Medicaid programs. Knowledge in clinical assessment and decision-making skills. Effective oral and written communications skills. Familiar with operating computers and the ability to utilize computer systems.
LICENSURE, REGISTRY, CERTIFICATIONS: Current PA or NP licensed by the State of Texas required. Current ACLS, PALS, and CPR certifications required.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Travel is required and reimbursed at the prevailing IRS business mileage rate. Duties of the position require moderate periods of walking and standing. Pushing, pulling, reaching, and bending when involved in patient care. Lifting up to 52 pounds and occasional heavy lifting in supporting or moving patients that may suddenly become weak or helpless. The ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
