Housing Counselor
Downstreet is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Housing Counselor to coordinate and implement homeownership counseling services. This person will help low- and middle-income homebuyers achieve their dream of homeownership in Central Vermont.Key ResponsibilitiesAnswer email and phone inquiries regarding homeownership programs.Perform client intake for homeownership services, including Financial Wellness, Shared Equity and Green Mountain Home Repair Programs.Provide one-on-one pre-purchase, financial capabilities, credit and foreclosure counseling services.Track all client activities using Salesforce client management system and other tracking tools, to include, but not limited to; Intake, client follow up and closing out of client files.Manage and hold homebuyer education workshops, both in person and through eHome America.Build and maintain accurate, confidential and complete client files, including electronic and paper files. Enter notes about all client interactions in a timely manner.Work with Shared Equity buyers through the whole process of purchasing a Shared Equity home to include but not limited to; review of applications for eligibility, house showings, drafting contract documents, educating buyers on the shared equity program, working with buyers through the home inspection process, and closing transactions.Collaborate with local lenders and other non-profits on the services we offer.Collaborate with the other homeownership centers across Vermont.Perform other duties as assigned.Experience and Education2 years of experience in mortgage lending, financial counseling/coaching or an equivalent combination of education, employment, and life experienceProficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn relevant softwareHighly organized with a strong ability to manage priorities and deadlines and ability to manage confidential informationStrong written and verbal communication skills, active listening skill and problem-solving abilitiesCommitment to equity and inclusion and social and economic justiceMust be able to travel for required trainingMust have or be able to obtain HUD Counseling Certification within 90 days of employmentValid Vermont Driver’s License and personal vehicleCompensation
