With global locations, technologies and products, 3M is a place where you can collaborate with other curious, creative 3Mers.This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career.Responsibilities/ The Impact You Will Make in this Role :As a Production Operator you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world.Here, you will make an impact by:Observing all safety procedures and maintain a clean and safe work areaApplying quality instructions and specificationsMonitoring the production or packing operation to ensure quality objectives are metLoading/unloading material into and from equipmentWorking as a team member through sharing information, problem solving and assisting othersUnderstanding and following all safety policies and proceduresFollowing process standards to ensure quality products are producedPerforming data entry and recording required tests and adjusting processes as necessary to meet quality specificationsMaintaining excellent housekeepingHandling hazardous waste material in accordance with federal and state regulationsYour Skills and Expertise : To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:Required:Possess a High School Diploma/GED or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institutionAbility to work a 12-hour day and night rotating shift (approximately 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM & 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM)Ability to work overtime work, weekends, and holidays as neededMinimum one (1) year of plant and/or manufacturing experience in a public, private, government, or military environmentApplicants meeting the basic qualifications may be required to take and pass 3M elected testing as a part of the selection process.Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:Desired:Post-high school educationExperience with control charting, material handling, packaging, chemical manufacturing, and hazardous waste managementExperience working with computers in a manufacturing settingAttention to detail, prioritization, self-motivation, teamwork, problem solving, analytical thinking, effective communication skills, strong work ethic, initiative, and a focus on safetyPerform work requiring general knowledge of production principles where productive process depends on an ability to detect and correct the defect. Basic understanding of Lean principlesOperate PLC or DCS controls, hand tools, various powered trucks, valves, and some test equipment; set up and operate equipment where moderate adjustment is requiredClose attention to detail, such as process conditions, is required at all times to avoid costly rework, production delays, safety incidents or scrap; continuously monitor equipment, process and product quality; ability to operate in an environment where complex machine operations happen simultaneously; ability to plan ahead in the process and production schedule to complete tasks in a timely fashion; execute proper in ‐ process testsTesting :Candidates must successfully complete 3M Manufacturing Employee Selection Process (MESP) testing.Work location: This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work their full schedule in Decatur, AL.Travel : NoneRelocation Assistance : NoneMust be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).Pay Transparency :The starting pay for this position is $33.97/hr, with the potential to reach $41.64/hr.
