The Role
We are seeking a Medical Residency Admissions Consultant who is an experienced physician with a strong understanding of the U.S. residency application process, particularly for International Medical Graduates (IMGs) applying to U.S. residency programs. In this role, you will mentor and guide candidates through residency application strategy, personal statement development, interview preparation, and program selection. You'll serve as a trusted coach throughout the U.S. residency admissions journey, helping candidates present compelling, authentic applications and make informed decisions aligned with their goals. This is a part-time, remote, 1099 contract role, open to candidates based in the United States or Canada.
Responsibilities
Work with prospective IMG residency candidates, helping them identify opportunities to strengthen their profile and draft compelling residency application documents
Manage relationships with applicants and families while providing strategic and tactical guidance on residency program selection, personal statements, resumes/CVs, letters of recommendation, interviews, and the overall U.S. residency application process
Identify optimal U.S. residency programs for individual candidates; provide feedback and guidance on program research and relevant application resources, ensuring alignment with the candidate's background and goals
Support candidates with project planning and residency application timeline management, helping them create and adhere to effective timelines through Excel-based trackers
Stay up to date on the U.S. residency match process and residency program requirements to advise prospective and existing clients on appropriate program selection and the nuances of applying to U.S. residency programs
Qualifications
Admissions Committee Experience: Have served on a residency selection committee or admissions board with experience reviewing applications and participating in interview or ranking decisions, providing insight into the residency selection process
Completed MD or DO degree
5–7 years of experience in education, coaching, tutoring, and/or residency admissions or advising
A passion for coaching
Strong planning and organizational skills
Strong English reading, writing, and editing skills, particularly for residency personal statements and ERAS applications
Strong verbal communication skills
Expertise in project management and applicant tracking
