About The RoleThe role leads complex technical work on a core platform - distributed systems, API layer, and data-intensive backend services - and helps shape how the engineering team operates.This is a role for someone who has shipped hard things, knows how to mentor without micromanaging, and cares about building systems that hold up under real enterprise load.Key ResponsibilitiesOwn complex backend and full-stack features from technical design through deployment, monitoring, and long-term maintenanceLead architectural planning for new subsystems: write design documents, gather feedback, and drive consensus across engineering teamsConduct rigorous code reviews that raise the quality bar for the team, not just the PR in front of youMentor engineers with 1–4 years of experience through 1:1s, pair programming, and structured growth conversationsIdentify and drive systematic improvements to system reliability, performance, and observability - not just firefightingCollaborate cross-functionally with product managers, data scientists, and QA engineers to define and deliver high-quality softwareRespond to and lead resolution of production incidents; author clear post-mortems with follow-through on action itemsWhat We Are Looking For5–9 years of professional software engineering experience with a track record of end-to-end feature ownershipDeep expertise in at least one backend language/ecosystem: Python (Django/FastAPI), Go, Java (Spring Boot), or Node.jsSolid distributed systems knowledge: eventual consistency, service communication patterns, database design at scale, caching strategiesCloud infrastructure experience on AWS, GCP, or Azure - you understand what is running where and whyExperience working with and mentoring earlier-career engineers; you improve people, not just codeStrong written communication - your design documents and PR comments are clear, constructive, and preciseBonus: enterprise SaaS domain knowledge, event streaming (Kafka), GraphQL, or Kubernetes operational experienceLocationSeattle, WA (Hybrid) San Francisco Bay Area New York City Austin, TX Chicago, IL
