Application InstructionsPlease complete the online application.Position DescriptionAn entry-level apprentice is an hourly, non-exempt position. They work as physical laborers, carpenter tenders, or assist operating engineers on construction projects, performing a wide variety of duties and learn to operate all kinds of hand and power tools.Depending on which trade you are pursuing, key duties can include:Assisting in the demo, pouring, and placing of concrete.Install traffic barricades, cones, and markers.Control traffic passing near, in, or around work zones.Clean and prepare job-sites, including highway work zones and right-of-way.Load, unload, and distribute materials to the appropriate location.Inspect, clean, and maintain tools.Enter confined spaces as required.Identify and eliminate possible safety hazards.Assist craft workers, including journeyman laborers, carpenters, and operating engineers.Other duties as needed and assigned by management.Benefits / CompensationBase rates and benefit packages follow collective bargaining agreements and include competitive wages, employer sponsored medical insurance, as well as a pension. Base rates vary from $19.59 - $27.27 per hour depending on trade and where work is performed. Total benefit packages once apprenticeships are complete can exceed $68 per hour.Position RequirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each Key Duty. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.General.Employee must have reliable transportation to get to the job-site, on time, every day, with the understanding that overtime can be mandatory and you could potentially be working over 12 hours on any given day. Being a hard worker, showing up on time every day, and wanting to learn are mandatory. If you have those skills, we can teach you the rest.Education and Experience.This position is an entry-level job, therefore no formal experience is required.A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred, as is some type of previous work experience or training, with priority given to construction, farming, landscaping, welding, and military service.You must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with job-site supervisors and fellow employees.Physical Demands.The ability to meet the following physical demands is required to successfully perform your Key Duties:Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day.Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform Key Duties.Work is often performed at heights up to 60 feet, requiring the employee to climb ladders, scaffolds and stairs, often with narrow steps and passageways.Work is performed near and around live traffic and requires constant awareness of your surroundings.Frequent work with hands extended overhead, sometimes in conjunction with the operation of hand power tools.Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50-90 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.Manual dexterity to hand-carry generators, lumber and other construction materials, forms, power tools, and hand tools.Capable of operating concrete vibrators for extended periods of time.Physical dexterity to pour, grade and finish concrete, involving stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions.Maintain constant alertness to the multiple activities on the construction site, including other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.Capable of being certified to enter confined spaces, including climbing into and out of excavations up to 15 feet in depth, using ladders or crawling, as required.Ability to maintain balance while working on watercraft or other surfaces.Sufficient skill and visual acuity, under varying degrees of light, darkness, and weather conditions, to provide direction and flagging for operators of cranes with rated capacities of up to 300 tons.Work Environment.Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, commonly found in road construction.Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found in road construction or near equipment, such as grease, diesel fuel, gasoline, and asphalt.Employee regularly works near heavy equipment, moving machinery, live utilities and near traffic.Equal Opportunity Employer
