Position Type:Security/Security - School YearDate Posted:11/11/2025Location:Lake Forest High SchoolDate Available:ASAPClosing Date:Until FilledLake Forest High School is seeking a 10 month, 8 hr/day Safety and Security OfficerDescription: Under the management and supervision of the Director of Safety and Security, the Safety and Security Officer provides a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors at the East and West Campuses of Lake Forest High School. The position is responsible for patrolling the school and campus facilities, staffing internal and external screening posts, protecting school assets and investigating violations of school board policies on school property, and at school-sponsored events. The position rotates duties among several work stations throughout each day, as assigned.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Patrols and monitors assigned areas, grounds and parking lots to deter, detect, stop, investigate and report unauthorized or suspicious persons, vehicles and activitiesReports all hazardous and dangerous conditions that may affect the safety and security of students, staff, and visitorsMaintains the orderly flow of vehicle, bus and pedestrian traffic in the parking lot and during student arrival and departure timesAssists with the posting of approved signage and notification flags at exterior access pointsChecks lots to ensure vehicles have proper parking authorization and are parked in assigned areasCoordinates traffic and parking for extra-curricular activities and events on campusPerforms a daily walk through inspections of facilities to ensure doors/gates are opened and secured at designated timesSupports administrators and staff during emergency and crisis situationsAssists with the implementation of fire drills and other emergency response protocolsWorks with school administrators to identify students violating school board policyMonitors surveillance cameras to observe campus activity in designated areasEstablishes security presence during evening events such as athletic competitions, open houses, dances, graduation ceremonies, etcMaintains a professional demeanor at all times and develops positive relationships with students, staff and community membersServes as a single point of contact at the Welcome Center and Commons; assigned duties include screening visitors, answering the phone, assisting staff, monitoring Life Safety Systems, directing first responders and supervising student check-in/outMaintains security records, logs, and reportsMakes recommendations to address deficiencies and improve school safety and securityAttends and successfully completes all staff development training as required by state law or as directed by the Safety and Security Director or School AdministrationAbides by School District policy and Safety and Security Department guidelines and directivesReads and responds to email communicationsSafely operates a vehicle in all traffic conditionsProtects the confidentiality of records and information about students, staff and school operationsServes as a team player and role model for other employees in the organization; demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement; supports and exhibits organizational core values of caring, respect, integrity, professionalism, and responsibility, values diversity and demonstrates sound problem solving and responsible decision-making skillsPerforms other job related duties as assigned by direct supervisorAdheres to Board of Education policies, procedures, and student rights and responsibilitiesEducation, Experience, and Licensure:High School Diploma or equivalentValid Driver's LicenseTraining in a security-related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the noted knowledge, skills, and abilitiesCompletion of college-level courses in the area of security, psychology, emergency management, or criminal justice - preferredSecurity experience in a public school setting - preferredExperience with office and school-based management systems - preferred Competencies:Strong verbal and written communication skillsStrong interpersonal skills and positive problem solving attitudeComfortable and pleasant demeanor in busy environmentsAbility to:work under pressurework with speed, attention to detail, consistency, and organizationprioritize workflow while working with many individualswork harmoniously, cooperatively, and effectively with all stakeholdersmeet deadlineswork effectively in office and school-based management systemsMaintain confidentialityAdhere to Board of Education policies and procedures Salary and Benefits:$18.99/hourStipend for Retired Law Enforcement OfficersPersonal and Sick Leave providedReimbursement - up to $1300 annually for tuition reimbursementInsurance - 100% district paid Single HMO Health (other options are also available)Retirement - IMRF (Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund) - the district pays the full district premium, employees pay the 4.5% employee contributionPhysical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, reach, climb, balance, stoop, push, pull, and lift.
