Streetscape Maintenance Equipment OperatorUnder the direction of the Landscape Supervisor the Streetscape Maintenance Equipment Operator is responsible for maintaining and enhancing outdoor spaces, ensuring they are aesthetically pleasing, safe, and functional. This role involves a variety of tasks, including grounds keeping, planting, irrigation, and the operation of landscaping equipment. This position is a bargaining unit position with the United SteelWorkers Union.
Examples Of DutiesOperates large area mowers, truck with trailer, tractors, backhoe with loader bucket, zero turn mowers, trimmers, push mowers, hedge shear, chain saw/pole saw
Mow, edge, plant, fertilize lawns, prune shrubs and trees, litter pick-up, raking leaves, and manage weed control
Assist with design and install flower beds, trees, and shrubs, ensuring optimal growth conditions
Safely operate and maintain landscaping equipment, including mowers, tractors, pruning tools, and chainsaws
Apply pesticides and herbicides in accordance with safety regulations to manage plant health
Prepare sites for landscaping projects, including grading, soil preparation, and erosion control
Conduct regular inspections of grounds to identify and address maintenance needs
Assists with athletic turf areas as needed
Performs minor maintenance on equipment, grounds, and buildings
Clean-up work area after completion of a job
Performs routine maintenance and makes minor repairs to trucks, mowers and other heavy equipment (e.g. lubrications, changes tires/belts, sharpens mower blades, etc.); repairs/services hand tools, chainsaws, etc.
Remains informed of current developments and procedures pertinent to duties
Participates in staff development activities and services review procedures; attends staff meetings and industry related conferences, as directed
Maintains required licenses and/or certificates
Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable PERP/OSHA safety standards that pertain to the position
Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance
Snow and ice removal from stairs, streets, parking lots, and trails/walkways
This position will assist the Street Dept with leaf pick-up and snow removal
Performs other duties as assigned
Typical QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or GED or equivalent
Minimum one (1) years professional experience in grounds, landscape, and/or facilities maintenance, or related field
Possession of Passenger endorsement on a Commercial Driver's License CDL (Class B) or ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of employment
Possession of a valid Ohio driver's license with good record
Must possess and maintain a valid Ohio Commercial Pesticide Applicator License, Category 5 Industrial Vegetation Control, or be able to obtain within twelve (12) months of employment
Pass drug screen and physical prior to employment
Previous experience in landscaping or horticulture, preferred.
Proficiency in operating landscaping equipment

Working Conditions:
Heavy: lift, push, pull 30 to 60 pounds occasionally; 20 to 35 pounds frequently
Ascends and/or descends ladders, stairs, or scaffolds
Is exposed to environmental conditions which may result in injury from fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and/or poorly ventilated work areas
Is exposed to possible injury from hazardous gases, chemicals, flammables, or air contaminants
Is exposed to possible injury due to unclean or unsanitary conditions
Is exposed to possible injury as a result of working with moving mechanical parts of equipment or machines
