Senior Electrical Design Engineer

DescriptionEnphase Energy is a global energy technology company and a leading provider of solar, battery, and electric vehicle charging products. Founded in 2006, our innovative microinverter technology revolutionized solar power, making it a safer, more reliable, and scalable energy source. Today, the Enphase Energy System enables users to create, use, save, and sell their own power. Enphase is also one of the most successful and innovative clean energy companies in the world, with more than 80 million products shipped across 160 countries.Join our dynamic teams designing and developing next-gen energy technologies and help drive a sustainable future!About The RoleThe Enphase Power System Innovation team in the office of the CTO is responsible for defining, prototyping, and supporting the next generations of Enphase Power system products. The team is an integrated, multi-disciplinary group that is fast-moving and looking for motivated individuals who can contribute and collaborate closely with the team to deliver innovative solutions. As a team member, you will solve some of the most exciting problems in the energy space and help shape the direction of our products. We are looking for a Senior Engineer with a strong background in electrical and insulation design for medium voltage systems. What You Will DoDesign medium voltage insulation systems that minimize electric field concentrations, surface tracking, and dielectric stress leading to partial dischargeModel and simulate electrostatic behavior using tools such as COMSOL, Ansys Maxwell, or similar finite element analysis platforms to predict PD inception voltage, creepage/clearance performance.Conduct partial discharge testing (offline, online, and type test formats) and interpret PD patterns to diagnose insulation defects, voids, or contaminationSpecify materials and insulation technologies (epoxies, polymers, ceramics, laminates, coatings) based on dielectric strength, aging characteristics, and environmental exposureLead failure mode investigations for electrostatic breakdown, insulation degradation, corona discharge, and arc flash events, providing corrective design actionsCollaborate with cross functional teams (mechanical, power electronics, safety, manufacturing) to integrate electrostatic protection into full product lifecycleDevelop documentation and design guidelines for PDfree operation, grounding, shielding, and insulation coordination.Ensure compliance with relevant standards (IEC 60270, IEC 60664, IEEE 1584, NFPA 70/70E, UL standards, and internal safety requirements)Who You Are And What You BringBS/MS/PhD Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or closely related disciplineJob title and position level will be determined based on the candidate’s experienceMinimum experience: BS and 5+ years / MS and 3+ years / PhD with electronics design experience for a Senior EngineerStrong understanding of electrostatics, dielectric physics, insulation coordination, and medium voltage engineeringHands on experience with partial discharge measurement, PD inception/propagation mechanisms, and corona mitigationExperience with FEM electrostatic simulation tools (COMSOL, Ansys, CST, or equivalent)Knowledge of creepage/clearance design, insulation aging, and high voltage material selectionFamiliarity with industry standards governing PD, arc flash, and high voltage safetyAdditional Desired SkillsProficiency with multi-physics modeling Medium voltage >5kV insulationFamiliarity with common standards for electrical equipment and energy storage systems TravelOccasional travel domesticallyWork locationHybrid position (at least 3 days in the office per week) based in Austin, TXThe base pay range for this position is $90,000 to $135,000.
