Tax & Financial Planning Associate (Enrolled Agent)

We are seeking a detail-oriented Enrolled Agent (EA) to prepare individual income tax returns during tax season and support financial planning activities during the remainder of the year. This full-time role offers a balanced mix of tax work and planning collaboration within a client-focused financial advisory firm. Position Overview This is a year-round position with a seasonal shift in focus. During tax season, the role centers on preparing individual tax returns (Form 1040). Outside of tax season, the associate will support our advisory team by helping build and analyze financial plans, with particular attention to tax-aware strategies. The ideal candidate enjoys tax preparation, has a strong planning mindset, and wants to work closely with financial advisors in a collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities Tax Season Responsibilities (Primary Focus: January–April) Prepare and review individual federal and state tax returns (Form 1040) Work with common schedules including Schedule A, B, and D Prepare returns involving: Investment income and consolidated 1099s Retirement income (IRAs, pensions, Social Security, RMDs) Charitable deductions and basic tax credits Limited multi-state filings Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with IRS regulations Non-Tax Season Responsibilities (Primary Focus: May–December) Assist advisors with building and updating financial plans Support tax-aware planning analysis, including: Roth conversion scenarios Capital gains management Tax-efficient withdrawal strategies Charitable planning considerations Input and maintain data in financial planning software (eMoney, RightCapital, MoneyGuide, or similar) Review plans for tax implications and flag opportunities for advisor review Support year-end tax projections and planning initiatives Qualifications Required Active Enrolled Agent (EA) credential in good standing Current IRS PTIN 3+ years of experience preparing individual tax returns Strong working knowledge of Form 1040 and related schedules High attention to detail and strong organizational skills Ability to explain tax concepts clearly to clients and advisors Preferred Experience in a financial advisory or planning environment Familiarity with financial planning software (eMoney, RightCapital, MoneyGuide) Comfort working with investment-heavy individual clients Interest in expanding tax knowledge into broader financial planning Additional certifications (CPA, CFP.
