The chosen candidate will be expected to significantly contribute to the WMU-Marketing program through teaching, research, and service, while also supporting the department's strategic efforts to incorporate emerging technologies into marketing education and practice.This position is suited for a scholar-educator who demonstrates a commitment to excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, develops an active research agenda, and engages proactively with industry partners and professional organizations.Major DutiesDeliver undergraduate courses in marketing principles, marketing analytics, marketing research, and other needed topics which may include consumer behavior, marketing strategy, and global business.Teach in various formats that may include traditional classrooms, large auditorium sessions (up to 260 students), hybrid, and online modes.Achieve high teaching evaluations and showcase pedagogical excellence.First two years is a 2/2 teaching load, then 3/3 teaching load.Establish and maintain an independent research program in marketing and related fields.Publish research in peer-reviewed ABDC journals and present findings at reputable marketing conferences.Support the department's academic goals through applied research and industry engagement.Collaborate on interdisciplinary research projects with colleagues from across the university.Participate in departmental, college, and university governance, including serving on committees and developing programs.Mentor and advise students in academic, career, and professional growth.Support departmental accreditation, program evaluation, and strategic planning efforts.Develop and maintain relationships with industry partners to enhance student experiential learning.Support recruitment, retention, and diversity efforts within the department and college.Demonstrate a willingness to serve as a faculty advisor for a related student organization.Minimum QualificationsEarned doctorate (Ph.D., DBA) from an accredited institution in marketing or a closely related field, completed by August 1, 2026.Demonstrated research potential through publications, conference presentations, or dissertation work in marketing or related areas.Evidence of effective teaching at the university level.Commitment to innovative teaching methods and ability to educate a diverse group of students, including international students and non-traditional learners.Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with faculty, students, and industry partners.Commitment to mentoring students through advising, research supervision, co-curricular activities, registered student organizations, or student success initiatives.Desired QualificationsEstablished publication record in peer-reviewed marketing journals.Experience teaching large-format courses (100+ students) with active learning strategies and educational technology.Experience in curriculum development, including course design, assessment, and integration of industry tools and software.Industry experience or partnerships that support experiential learning, including internships, case studies, guest speakers, or applied projects related to quantitative consumer research (B2C), advertising strategy, and/or digital marketing and supporting technology platforms.Special Instructions to ApplicantsApplicants must submit the following documents electronically:PDF with cover letter that includes qualifications, research, & teaching statement (max 5 pages).PDF including CV, references, any teaching evaluations or evidence of effectiveness, sample publications or working papers.Additional Position InformationGo to: wmich.edu/hr/employees/faculty for benefits and other information.About Western Michigan University and the Department of MarketingWestern Michigan University is a student-centered, discovery-oriented, and globally engaged public institution serving around 18,000 students.
