Embedded Software Engineer
Company DescriptionLaunchspace Technologies Corporation is a leader and pioneer in providing dual-use technology sensor, spacecraft shielding and active debris removal solutions.Launchspace’s provides solutions for the three threats to spaceflight safety and the upcoming $1 trillion global space economy:1. Threats from space-based adversaries2. Orbital debris3. The inability to track the 60,000 satellites forecasted on-orbit in the next 5 yearsWe are now hiring to build our patented Space Domain Awareness (SDA) sensor solution that detects, tracks, and characterizes small, lethal non-trackable (LNT) orbital debris as well as anomalous spacecraft in the distance to give superior SDA in all orbital domains. We work with the Space Force, NASA, and commercial companies.Role DescriptionAs an Embedded Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day tasks associated with developing embedded sensor software solutions for detecting and tracking orbital debris and spacecraft. The ideal candidate will be responsible for architecting a system and developing high-quality applications. They will also be responsible for designing and implementing testable and scalable code. This includes back-end database development for ground system processing, and onboard payload data processing at the edge.Aerospace experience is not mandatory to be successful here as we want our engineers to bring fresh ideas. We need engineers who love solving problems and will make an impact on our noble mission. We're looking for versatile, motivated, and collaborative engineers to help us build software systems that are secure and autonomous. Our software engineers are responsible for the life cycle of the software they create, including simulation, development, testing, and operational support.Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesDeliver highly capable, highly reliable flight software that controls the sensor payloads.Architect and design in-house solutions from make/buy trades.Present design review materials to our customers and executive team.Define system block diagrams, data flow schematics, and architecture drawings.Build automated software systems that integrate smart data processing with command and control of the payloadDevelop tools, models, and simulations for flight-like software testing, virtualized hardware testing, and software or hardware-in-the-loop testingApplicants must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as neededMinimum Qualifications RequiredBachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math and 4+ years of experience in software development; OR 6+ years of professional experience in software development in lieu of a degree2+ years experience developing Linux-based software for common processors and micro controllers in C, C++, MATLAB, Simulink and Python.Strong understanding of math, physics, and the subsystems in a payload.Experience with software test in a simulation environment (Simulink, STK, SPEOS)Proficiency in system design and analysis, including interface definition, requirement derivation, digital I/O standards and communications protocols.Familiarity with FPGA, GPU, and DSP/microprocessor interfaces.Preferred ExperienceFamiliarity with embedded systems and bare-metal microprocessor programming.Experience with image data processing and machine learningExperience with space system architectures.Experience in the command and control of space systems or mission operations, including CubeSat design team experience.Compensation Base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock or stock options. This is a remote role.To conform to U.S. Government export control (ITAR) regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, or (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder).Launchspace Technologies Corporation is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
