Genetics Counselor Assistant
Job SummaryThe genetic counseling assistant (GCA) will help facilitate genetic evaluation, testing and coordination of care of genetic patients under the supervision of the genetic counselor and medical geneticist. Duties may include triaging referrals, obtaining medical records and previous test results prior to patient visits, performing patient intakes, coordination of scheduling patients, sample collection and send out for genetic testing, completion of genetic testing order forms, and tracking the status of test results. The GCA will assist with documentation in the electronic health record, coordinating follow up, answering phone calls, and maintaining the genetics database.EducationRequired: At least 2 years of college coursework in biology /health sciencePreferred: Bachelor's degree in biology/health scienceExperienceRequired: NonePreferred:1-2 years in genetics specialty clinicPosition Requirement(s): License/Certification/RegistrationRequired: nonePreferredPosition Requirement(s): Critical SkillsDemonstrated experience and success in working in a health care team producing positive outcomesExcellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills necessaryAbility to work in time sensitive environment and with confidential information.Ability to plan time effectively, balance multiple tasks, work within stringent time frames, and execute projects to completion.
