Job Role: Floodplain Dam Lead EngineerDuration: Full TimeLocation: Chantilly, VAThis Opportunity:We are seeking a Floodplain and Dam Engineer to join our Water Resources Team within our Chantilly, VA office as lead technical modeler. A resume and cover letter are requested.This individual will have the opportunity to work on floodplain modeling, floodplain permitting, design of crossings of the floodplain, dam modeling, and dam permitting. This individual will conduct hydrology and hydraulic (H&H) modeling for a variety of project applications across the region. Floodplain work will include local floodplains and FEMA floodplains. Dam work will include state regulated dams in Virginia and Maryland.This position offers excellent opportunities for professional growth in a work atmosphere that strives for excellence and emphasizes teamwork. This position offers the opportunity to help drive internal processes and mentor junior engineers.Technical Design Opportunities:Develop H&H models using topographic, GIS, and as-built dataAnalyze, calibrate, and troubleshoot modelsPrepare floodplain study, alteration, CLOMR, and LOMR packagesPrepare dam breach inundation studies, dam hazard assessments, dam failure analysisConduct floodplain and dam breach mappingPrepare emergency action plans, emergency drill presentationsDesign floodplain crossings (vehicular and pedestrian)Design dam rehabilitation and alterationsGeneral Job Responsibilities:Produce and QC HEC-RAS modelsDevelop and QC floodplain permitting packagesConduct site visits for floodplain and dam inspectionsDevelop local and state permit applicationsPrepare and QC technical reportsResearch regulatory codes, manuals, and standardsManage multiple projects and deadlinesMeet and coordinate with regulators to address comments and facilitate approvalCommunicate effectively with team membersManage junior staffPerform other duties as requiredRequired Qualifications:A minimum of 5+ years with HEC-RAS modelingBachelor’s degree in civil engineering, or similar degreeProfessional Engineer licenseStrong mathematical/analytical skillsStrong communication, writing, and organizational skillsStrong quality control skills and attention to detailProficiency with ArcMap, or similarPreferred Qualifications:Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM)HEC-RAS 2D modelingProficiency with AutocadAbout Us:Our team works together in an enjoyable work atmosphere where your goals are as important as our corporate goals.
