Job Title: Energy Storage Engineer - Utility Scale BESS Projects Job Location: Juno Beach Job Type: Long-term Contract Position Specific Description: Engineering & Construction Services is seeking an experienced Energy Storage Engineer to support the planning, design, engineering, and execution of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. This role will support cross-functional engineering and project teams through all phases of project development, including conceptual design, detailed engineering review, equipment integration, technical evaluations, permitting support, and construction coordination. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise in energy storage systems, power systems, and renewable energy infrastructure with excellent project coordination and communication skills. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering consultants, suppliers, project managers, and construction teams to deliver high-quality and technically compliant energy storage solutions. This role requires the ability to independently perform specialized technical assignments, identify engineering risks, improve system designs, and support large-scale renewable energy projects including solar-plus-storage facilities. Approximately 25% travel is required for project-specific support activities and site coordination. Primary Areas of Responsibility - Energy Storage Engineering: • Support engineering design and technical development of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects • Review and coordinate engineering deliverables including electrical, civil, structural, and control system drawings • Support design phase activities and integration of major BESS equipment and power conversion systems • Identify inconsistencies in engineering drawings and technical studies and implement corrective actions • Improve engineering quality, design efficiency, and technical consistency across projects • Prepare and review technical scopes of work, specifications, and engineering contract documents • Collaborate with project managers to support projects from development through construction and commissioning • Support project milestone tracking, technical issue resolution, and risk identification activities • Work closely with suppliers and OEMs to support equipment integration and technical evaluations • Support engineering reviews related to substations, generation tie lines, inverter systems, and DC/DC converters • Participate in technical discussions related to energy storage system architecture and controls integration • Support engineering evaluations for permitting requirements, code compliance, and constructability reviews • Recommend design improvements and technical solutions to optimize project performance and reliability Supporting Areas of Responsibility - Renewable Energy Projects: • Support solar PV and hybrid solar-plus-storage project engineering activities • Coordinate across multidisciplinary engineering teams including electrical, civil, SCADA, and controls groups • Review battery storage system layouts, equipment specifications, and integration requirements • Assist with construction support, field issue resolution, and commissioning coordination • Support technical evaluations related to system safety, operational reliability, and compliance requirements • Stay current with industry standards, emerging technologies, and utility-scale storage best practices • Support process improvement initiatives and technical standardization efforts across projects Qualifications: • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline required • 3+ years of experience in renewable energy engineering, energy storage systems, or utility-scale power projects • Experience supporting utility-scale solar, battery energy storage, substations, or power generation projects • Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals and power system integration • Experience reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation • Strong project coordination and communication skills • Ability to independently perform technical assignments and engineering evaluations • Willingness to travel approximately 25% for project support activities Desired Qualifications: • Experience with utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: • Power Electronics • Battery Storage System Design • Substation Design • Generation Tie Design • Familiarity with lithium-ion battery technologies and energy storage system architecture • Knowledge of battery storage safety standards and codes including: • UL1973 • UL9540 / UL9540A • NFPA 855 • NFPA 70E • NEC • IFC / IBC requirements • Familiarity with IEC 61215, IEC 61646, and IEC 61730 standards • Experience supporting permitting and code compliance reviews • Experience supporting construction and commissioning activities • Knowledge of renewable energy system controls and SCADA integration preferred Required Skills: • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) • Utility-Scale Renewable Energy Projects • Electrical Engineering • Power Systems Engineering • Engineering Design Review • Technical Documentation & Specifications • Project Coordination • Equipment Integration • Engineering Drawings Review • Technical Problem Solving • Cross-Functional Team Collaboration • Construction Support Additional / Preferred Skills: • Solar PV Engineering • Power Electronics • Substation Engineering • Generation Tie Design • Power Conversion Systems (PCS) • DC/DC Converter Integration • SCADA & Controls Integration • Permitting & Code Compliance • Engineering Risk Assessment • OEM Coordination • Energy Storage Safety Standards • Utility Interconnection Knowledge • Renewable Energy Construction Support
