Extended School Year (ESY) Special Education Teacher

OVERVIEWThe Extended School Year (ESY) Program is designed to provide continued specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities beyond the regular school year, as determined by each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). The ESY Special Education Teacher is responsible for delivering specially designed instruction aligned to IEP goals, supporting skill maintenance, preventing regression, and ensuring continuity of services in a structured and supportive learning environment.GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORKUnder the supervision of the ESY Site Administrator and/or Site Facilitator, the ESY Special Education Teacher provides direct instruction to students with disabilities, implements IEPs, and monitors student progress. The teacher collaborates with staff to ensure that instructional practices, accommodations, and supports are aligned with each student's individualized needs.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSPlan and deliver specially designed instruction aligned to students' IEP goalsImplement accommodations, modifications, and behavior intervention plans as outlined in student IEPsMonitor and document student progress toward IEP goals during the ESY sessionDevelop and utilize instructional materials that support student engagement and access to the curriculumProvide a structured, safe, and supportive learning environment for all studentsSupervise and direct the work of instructional paraprofessionals and personal care assistantsCollaborate with related service providers to support continuity of services, as applicableMaintain accurate documentation and data collection in accordance with division expectationsCommunicate effectively with staff and ESY leadership regarding student progress and needsComply with school division policies, procedures, and expectationsAttend all assigned ESY sessions and required trainingPerform other duties as assigned by the Site Administrator and/or Site FacilitatorEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEValid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Special Education required;Experience working with students with disabilities across a range of needs preferred;Experience developing and implementing IEPs and behavior supports preferredTERMS OF EMPLOYMENTSummer ESY Program; up to 4 hours per day during assigned session(s)
