This is a senior-level role for an attorney who can independently manage sophisticated matters, deliver excellent client service, and help build the systems, workflows, and team structure that support a strong and scalable practice.Position SummaryThe Senior Attorney will play a central role in the firm’s trusts and estates practice. The ideal candidate will have the technical ability to handle sophisticated planning and administration matters, the judgment to advise clients directly, and the leadership capacity to help lead day-to-day legal work within the division while contributing to its continued growth and development.The Senior Attorney will work closely with firm leadership in developing the estate planning, trust administration, and probate division.This role is best suited for an attorney who wants meaningful responsibility, operational involvement, and a leadership path within a growing firm.Key ResponsibilitiesAdvise clients on estate planning, trust administration, probate, conservatorship, and related fiduciary mattersDraft and review trusts, wills, powers of attorney, advance health care directives, deeds, petitions, and related legal documentsManage trust administrations from initial post-death consultation through final distributionHandle probate matters, including petitions, notices, court filings, and hearingsCounsel fiduciaries regarding duties, administration strategy, timelines, and legal riskRepresent clients in court appearances related to probate, trust, and administration mattersConduct legal research and analysis on trusts and estates issuesSupervise and work closely with paralegals and support staff to ensure matters progress efficientlyHelp improve templates, workflows, checklists, and internal systems within the practiceMaintain strong client communication and a high standard of professionalism throughout each matterQualificationsRequired:Juris Doctor from an accredited law schoolActive membership in good standing with the State Bar of California6+ years of experience in estate planning, trust administration, probate, or a combination of those areasAbility to independently manage matters from intake through resolutionStrong drafting, client counseling, and case management skillsStrong organizational skills and attention to detailAbility to work effectively in an onsite, team-oriented law firm environmentPreferred:Experience handling both estate planning and post-death administration mattersExperience with conservatorships or guardianshipsCourtroom experience in probate or related proceedingsExperience supervising paralegals or legal support staffExperience building or improving legal workflows, systems, or operational processesCalifornia Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust & Probate Law, or interest in pursuing that pathCompensation and Benefits$200,000 per year, plus performance-based bonusHealth, dental, and vision insurance401(k) with employer contribution after eligibility requirements are metPaid vacation, PTO, and firm holidaysProfessional development assistanceFree parkingWhy Join Burrey Law GroupLeadership role within a growing trusts and estates practiceMeaningful responsibility and direct client impactOpportunity to help shape systems, processes, and division growthParalegal and administrative supportProfessional, collaborative, and accountable work environmentHigh standards with an emphasis on quality, efficiency, and client serviceWork EnvironmentFull-time, onsite position based in Orinda, CaliforniaMonday through FridayRegular business hoursRemote and hybrid arrangements are not available for this roleTechnology stack includes Smokeball, Lawmatics, Microsoft 365, Westlaw, and WealthCounselPlease submit your resume and a brief cover letter describing your experience in estate planning, trust administration, and probate, and why this role is a strong fit for your next stage of practice.
