Initiates, assembles, and maintains patient charts following procedures. Files reports and test results.Processing ordered tests, medications, procedures, and appointments. Processing patient admissions, transfers, and discharges. Informing team members of reports, orders, and other information.Answering telephones and managing the patient call system. Serving as an information resource to patients, staff, and the public. Consistently interacting appropriately with all ages.Completing and maintaining unit and patient records, files, forms, and documents. This includes admissions, surgeries, transfers, discharges, medical records, and physician call lists. Maintaining an organized work area of records, files, forms, and reference documents. Checking, updating, and maintaining facility boards, pneumatic tube system, and telemetry box reconciliation according to departmental policy, procedures, and guidelines.Preparing reports, purchase orders, projects, memos, and letters using computer programs.Greeting visitors and helping them as needed. Answering telephones and contacting nursing team and medical staff using pagers, beepers, and cell phones. Tracking call light response time for the unit. Assigning phone and location devices to appropriate staff.Performing work area duties as directed by the nurse or physician. Running errands, picking up supplies, and transporting patients.Maintaining par levels of inventory, including requisitions/forms, and stocking work area supplies and equipment.Maintaining a clean, safe, and functional work area.Coordinating transportation for patients and patient items as delegated.Key success factors include:Excellent bedside manner and ability to make patients feel at ease; appears friendly, reassuring, and approachable to patients.Ability to take instruction from a doctor.Familiarity with medical charts and records.High attention to detail.Knowledge of basic computer and keyboard skills.Completion of Health Unit Coordinator Training Program preferred.Qualifications:Education - H.S. Diploma/GED EquivalentExperience - Less than 1 Year of Experience
