Position: Outside Counsel Guideline SpecialistLocation: Downtown Los Angeles, CA (Hybrid, 1 day onsite/week*)Pay: $125,000 to $135,000 annuallyExperience: 5+ years in law firm legal operations or billing management to assist in the negotiation, drafting, and governance of outside counsel guidelines (OCGs) on behalf of the firm and its clients, ensuring alignment between client expectations and firm operations.Education: J.D. or equivalent legal training required.Type: Full-time; Direct HireSchedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pmKent Daniels & Associates is seeking an Outside Counsel Guideline Specialist to join our dynamic law firm client!Job DescriptionReview, analyze, and negotiate incoming OCGs from corporate clients, identifying provisions that conflict with firm policy, ethics rules, or financial requirementsDraft and redline OCG responses, counterproposals, and engagement letters in coordination with practice group chairs and firm leadershipMaintain/update firm's standard OCG positions, fallback language, and internal escalation protocolsAdvise attorneys and client relationship managers on practical implications of specific OCG provisions, including billing restrictions, staffing requirements, and confidentiality obligationsCoordinate with billing and finance teams to ensure billing guideline compliance, including rate schedules, invoice submission requirements, and write-off policiesTrack market trends in OCG provisions and benchmark firm positions against peer firms and industry standardsBuild and manage a centralized OCG database, ensuring executed guidelines and client-specific exceptions are properly documented and accessibleCollaborate with professional responsibility and ethics counsel on privilege, conflicts, and confidentiality-related OCG provisionsTrain and advise attorneys and staff on firm OCG policies and flag compliance issues as they arise during mattersPosition RequirementsMust have deep familiarity with OCG structures, billing guideline conventions, and common client demands. Strong contract drafting and redlining skills with excellent written and verbal communication; comfort engaging with senior attorneys and client representatives.Experience with legal billing software (Aderant, Elite, CounselLink, Onit) is a must. Background in legal project management and experience in an AmLaw 100/200 or large regional firm environment is preferred. Experience with eBilling platforms and LEDES billing format with working knowledge of ABA Model Rules and applicable state ethics rules is a plus.
