Job Description SummaryThe Vascular Access Nurse I reports to the Vascular Access Insertion Nursing (VAIN) Coordinator and the Lead Coordinator for Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing and Vascular Access Insertion Nursing Programs. Under general supervision, the Vascular Access Nurse I works collaboratively with the VAIN Coordinator providing PICC, midline, and IV vascular access to patients utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; reducing post procedure complication rates and providing quality patient care. This role provides education to patients and family members regarding PICC care and maintenance while interacting with other members of the health care team to achieve the desired results. No Sundays, nights, or call.Job Summary/Purpose:Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results.Minimum Training and Education: Bachelor of Nursing degree from an accredited school of nursing and a minimum of three years of work experience as a registered nurse required. Successful completion of in house PICC Excellence training modules required within 1 months of hire date. PICC or vascular access certification (CPUI, VA-BC, or CRNI) to be obtained within 18 months of hire date. Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction.
