Mid-Level Facilities Plant Engineer

OverviewThis role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit’s Commercial Business Units (“Spirit Commercial”). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing’s three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial’s core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminium manufacturing solutions.Position OverviewThis is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing facilities organization, expand your technical expertise and contribute to our enterprise Facilities Engineering and Technology team. In this role, you will lead and support engineering projects from concept development through construction and implementation while partnering with manufacturing maintenance, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), suppliers, and external engineering firms. This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges and working in a collaborative, fast-paced production environment.ResponsibilitiesPosition Responsibilities:Lead and support civil structural engineering projects for industrial and manufacturing facilities.Develop project scopes, engineering criteria, construction documents, and technical specifications for facility modifications and capital improvement projectsCoordinate and manage outside architecture and engineering firms during project design and executionReview engineering drawings, calculations, submittals, test reports, and construction documentation for technical accuracy and code complianceSupport construction activities through field inspection, contractor coordination, response to requests for information (RFIs), punch list development and project close out.Evaluate existing structures, utilities, and facility systems to support manufacturing growth, equipment installations, and operational changes.Partner with manufacturing, maintenance, EHS, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure facility solutions meet operational and safety requirements.Apply sound engineering judgment to balance project cost, reliability, maintainability, constructability, and long-term facility performance.Support on-site troubleshooting and engineering assessments for facility infrastructure and production support systems.Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, safety regulations, and engineering standards including OSHA, IBC, IMC, and NFPA requirementsQualificationsBasic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited program, or related engineering field from an ABET-accredited institution.Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work across multiple engineering disciplines and operational teams.Ability to support field activities in an industrial or manufacturing environment.Interface and lead Facilities Team and Consultants, as well as the skills to easily work and communicate with Maintenance and Construction personnel.Ability to efficiently manage multiple projects, including monitoring design costs, and meeting deadlines.Computer skills including proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Procore, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint)Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)Professional Engineer (PE) License.10+ years of engineering design or industrial facilities engineering experience.Previous experience supporting manufacturing, aerospace, industrial, or plant engineering environments.Experience supporting capital projects and contractor coordination.Working knowledge of structural systems, utilities infrastructure, fire protection, and architectural disciplines.Experience working with regulatory and safety compliance standards in industrial environmentsExperience with seismic analysis and interpretation.
