Job Title: Speech-Language PathologistReports to: Director of Special EducationDept./School: Special EducationExemption Status: Exempt / 187 daysSalary calculations will be commensurate with job experience.Primary Purpose:Plan and provide speech-language pathology services to students with speech, voice, or languagedisorders. Assess students and provide therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduce problems orimpairments that interfere with their students' ability to derive full benefit from the educationalprogram.Qualifications:Education/Certification:Master' s degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or universityValid Texas license as a speech-language pathologist granted by the State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (SBESLPA)orBachelor's degreeValid Texas Education Agency speech therapy certificateSpecial Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Ability to use the accepted tests and measurements to assess communication disorders andconditionsKnowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech-language disorders andconditionsAbility to instruct and manage student behaviorExcellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsExperience:One year of supervised clinical speech-language pathology experienceMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Therapy1. Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speechand language goals contained in Individual Education Plans (IEP).2. Evaluate student progress and determine readiness for termination of therapy services.Assessment3. Conduct independent evaluations to assess students with speech or language disorders andconditions to determine eligibility for services.4. Develop clinical management strategies or procedures and diagnostic statements byinterpreting observations or data.5. Participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist ininterpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and goal setting for students withcommunication disorders or conditions according to district procedures.Consultation6. Counsel and involve parents in remedial process.7. Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom activities to improvecommunication skills of students.8. Provide professional development in assigned schools to help school personnel identify andunderstand communication deficits in students.9. Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents regarding the accomplishmentof therapy goals and needs of the student.Student Management10. Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level andinterests of students.11. Establish control and administer discipline according to the Student Code of Conduct andstudent handbook.Program Management12. May supervise licensed speech-language pathology assistant(s) or speech aide(s).*13. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of speech-language pathology services andmake changes based on the findings.14. Assist in the selection of equipment and instructional materials.Administration15. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other required documents.16. Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, andboard policy.17. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.18.
