Come and be one of them.About The RoleThe Senior Civil Engineer is a core member of Fluidstack’s Design and Engineering team. You will own the civil engineering workstream across a multi-site, multi-state development portfolio from early-stage site screening through design, permitting, and construction completion.This is an owner/developer role. You will manage external civil consultants, coordinate with geotechnical engineers, interface with local authorities, and drive technical alignment across GCs and project teams. You will be the subject matter authority on site civil grading, drainage, utilities, floodplain, and earthwork across some of the largest data center campuses in development.ResponsibilitiesSite Evaluation & Due DiligenceLead civil due diligence for greenfield and conversion sites: topography, drainage, utilities, soils, floodplain, and environmental constraintsReview traffic impact studies and offsite infrastructure requirements; flag civil cost and schedule risks during site selectionDirect geotechnical investigations, scope RFPs, review boring programs, interpret reports, and assign design actionsAssess site suitability for large-scale grading, infrastructure, and stormwater managementIdentify fatal flaws and quantify civil cost risks during site selectionDesign & StandardsDevelop and maintain civil basis of design, master specifications, and standard drawings for FluidStack’s campus portfolioManage external civil consultants from schematic through IFC and review deliverables, enforce standards, and track design qualityEstablish grading strategies, earthwork balance, and cut/fill sequences for large-scale campus developmentsStructure phased delivery including early work packages (mass grading, site utilities, early enablement) to accelerate critical pathCoordinate site utility routing: water, sewer, storm, and medium-voltage underground infrastructure, including offsite tie-ins and roadway improvementsIntegrate civil scope with structural, MEP, fiber, and architectural design teamsPermitting & RegulatoryLead civil permitting strategy across jurisdictions: land disturbance, NPDES/SWPPP, floodplain (CLOMR/LOMR), environmental, and utility permitsCoordinate with state and local agencies, drainage authorities, and utility providersManage permit schedules as part of overall project critical pathMonitor regulatory risk including wetlands, 100-year floodplain, karst, expansive soils, and develop mitigation strategiesConstruction SupportReview contractor submittals, RFIs, and field conditions for civil scopeConduct periodic site visits and document civil construction quality and complianceManage design changes and change order scope for civil workCoordinate civil closeout, as-builts, and acceptance with local authoritiesBasic QualificationsB.S. in Civil Engineering7+ years of civil engineering experience, including significant work on large-scale site development projects (data centers, industrial, logistics, or power infrastructure preferred)Professional Engineer (PE) license, or active pursuit with expected licensure within 12 monthsExperience directing external civil consultants and managing design deliverable qualityWorking knowledge of grading, earthwork, stormwater management, and site utility designFamiliarity with NPDES permitting, floodplain regulations (FEMA/CLOMR/LOMR), and land disturbance permittingProficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D; familiarity with GIS toolsWillingness to travel to project sites across the US (estimated 20–30%)Preferred QualificationsExperience in hyperscale data center, large-scale industrial, or energy infrastructure developmentFamiliarity with FM Global site civil requirementsGeotechnical evaluation experience (coordination and interpretation)Experience with expansive clay soils, karst geology, or high water table site conditionsExposure to MISO/utility interconnection land and civil coordinationOwner/developer-side experience (vs. pure consultant or EPC)BenefitsCompetitive total compensation package (salary + equity).Retirement or pension plan, in line with local norms.Health, dental, and vision insurance.Generous PTO policy, in line with local norms.The salary range for this position is $200,000 - $250,000 per year, depending on experience, skills, qualifications, and location. This range represents our good faith estimate of the compensation for this role at the time of posting.
