The candidate must possess a comprehensive knowledge of reading acquisition and pedagogy, learning theory, and best practices for effective Tier I, II, and III instruction. Candidates must demonstrate abilities to provide school-level leadership in the areas of reading and language artswork collaboratively with all members of the school and division team provide support to teachers in planning and delivering instruction analyze student performance data and create action plansdeliver high quality instruction to meet individual and group needs Coaching is also a key component of this position. Candidates should demonstrate an understanding of adult learning and instructional coaching best-practices that use state standards, division curriculum, research-based strategies, and student data to increase student achievement. Essential Duties Provide daily leadership and support for elementary literacy instruction through coaching, participation on school action teams, collaboration with school leadership, reading specialists, additional coaches, and direct work with teachersSupport teachers in the implementation of all facets of literacy instruction through the use of coaching strategies, including but not limited to participating in coaching cycles, modeling of instruction, co-teaching, and collaborative planningAssist teachers in the use of data to identify student needs, form groups, select resources, and inform instructionParticipate in collaborative planning to support the implementation of the HCPS Instructional Model, use of aligned curriculum, and integration of research-based practices in literacy instructionAssist teachers with the selection of instructional materials that adhere to the HPCS aligned curriculum, stimulate learning, and meet the needs of all students in a learner-centered classroomCollaborate with school leadership to identify literacy needs based upon data, develop school literacy goals that address the need, and implement a plan to achieve the literacy goalsUse school data to design and deliver professional learning experiences for instructional and additional staff that supports literacy instruction, address school goals, and align with HCPS Instructional ModelEstablish trust, rapport, and credibility with entire school communityFacilitate conversations with individual teachers, grade level teams, entire staff, and other groupsCommunicate and collaborate with other staff including but not limited to exceptional education, LIEP, gifted, reading facilitators, and division level coaches to support learning for all studentsCollaborate with Title I lead instructional coaches, coordinator and the Title I specialist, including attending monthly literacy and Title I professional learningParticipate in ongoing personal professional learning experiences in which coaches examine their own practice, share ideas, problem solve and develop best practices expertise and tools as a means of enhancing the instructional practices of all teachers and improving student achievementAssist with the creation of family engagement events and school-wide initiatives that promote literacy Maintain an inventory of Title I materials to include but not limited to reading and writing materials and oversee the organization of text and resources in the bookroomStay abreast of current educational trends and best practices as these relate to classroom instruction, effective schools, and student achievementUse expertise as a reading specialist to deliver small group instruction, as neededMaintains professional manner when interacting with students, families, school and division staff, patrons, and community agenciesSupport the continued implementation of the HCPS LifeReady Literacy PlanMaintain documentation to ensure Title I is in compliance with local, state and federal guidelines and processesPerform other duties as assignedAdditional Information This is a 220 day contract. The minimum annual salary is: $62,803 Bachelors, $65,818 Masters, $68,977 Doctoral Applicants selected for an interview will be contacted by the school.Henrico County Schools reserves the right to begin screening applications and make a selection at any time during the posting period. Minimum RequirementsMust hold a current, active teaching license issued by the Virginia Department of Education.Master's degree with a Reading Specialist endorsement (or proof of enrollment in a Reading Specialist program) is requiredA minimum of three years of successful teaching experience requiredExperience in grades K through 5Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently and 25 to 50 pounds occasionally, and may assist, move, or restrain students when required to intervene in student safety issues.
