Program Coordinator

The North Carolina Mock Trial Program seeks a seasonal Program Coordinator to support its statewide high school mock trial competitions from mid-August through the end of March. This is a full-time seasonal role; the program is also open to filling the position with two part-time coordinators. *please see end of the description for how to apply*The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and skilled at coordinating multi-location events. Experience with mock trial and/or the legal field is preferred but not required. The Coordinator will work closely with the Executive Director, coaches, teams, volunteers, attorneys, and judges to ensure successful Regional and State competitions.Who We AreNCMTP administers a statewide high school mock trial competition serving nearly 1,000 students from more than 28 counties each year. Through the program, students learn about trial by jury, legal rights and responsibilities, critical thinking, public speaking, and civic engagement. Registered teams receive a competition case and rulebook, then prepare both sides of the case with guidance from coaches and local attorneys. Regional champions advance to the State Finals for the opportunity to represent North Carolina at the National High School Mock Trial Championship. More than 500 attorneys volunteer annually as judges and jurors for regional and state competitions.What the Program Coordinator Will Do                  Based remotely in North Carolina and reporting to the Executive Director (also remote), the Program Coordinator will help plan, administer, and execute NCMTP’s Regional and State competitions.Coordinate competition logistics, including regional locations, team assignments, supplies, schedules, and event materials.Manage team registration, waitlists, communications, and accurate records.Respond promptly and professionally to questions from coaches, teams, volunteers, attorneys, and judges.Recruit, organize, motivate, and recognize volunteers across multiple competition sites.Support event planning for Regional Competitions, State Finals, and related receptions or gatherings.Anticipate issues, solve problems pragmatically, and keep stakeholders informed.Who You AreCollaborative: You build strong working relationships with teachers, students, attorneys, judges, and other volunteers. Organized and detail-oriented: You can manage many moving pieces, from emails and phone calls to supplies, location assignments, and event timelines.Results-driven: You set a high bar, plan ahead, anticipate obstacles, and follow through.Volunteer-focused: You understand that volunteers have many competing responsibilities and know how to communicate clearly, motivate participation, and show appreciation.Preferred: Experience with mock trial and/or the legal field.Examples of Day-to-Day WorkAnswering coach questions (email/phone) about the case, rules, or competition logistics.Tracking registration and drafting team assignments for 12 Regional locations.Communicating waitlist status with professionalism and care.Ordering, preparing and distributing all competition supplies for 12 Regional sites.Position DetailsSchedule: Seasonal, mid-August through the end of March; full-time preferred, with openness to two part-time roles.Location: Remote in North Carolina; Raleigh area preferred, with flexibility for the right candidate.Travel: Required at least twice annually for Regional and State competitions.Compensation: $25 - $30/hour for the 31-week season, depending on experience.Start date: Mid-August.NCMTP is an equal opportunity employer.
