The successful candidate must be prepared to teach symbolic logic, including sentential logic and quantified first-order predicate logic. The teaching load is 4-4 and will include sections of Symbolic Logic as well as courses that serve the University's general education program. The ability to teach ethics, business ethics, and/or philosophy of mind (e.g., Minds, Brains, and Machines) is a significant plus. There may also be an opportunity to teach feminist philosophy if desired. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. The Ph.D. or ABD in Philosophy or a closely related field is preferred. Strong candidates with an MA will also be considered. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to): Essential duties Teaching Four classes a semester in Fall and Spring in area of expertise and/or first-year courses. Secondary Responsibilities Perform other job-related duties as assigned and participation in the intellectual life of the Department, the College of Arts & Sciences, and the University. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required): Required A demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education. Competence in symbolic logic through first-order predicate logic. A Ph.D. or ABD in philosophy or a philosophy-related discipline (strong candidates with an M.A. may be considered). Preferred Ability to teach ethics, business ethics, and/or philosophy of mind. Interest in interdisciplinary teaching. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS: Must be available for in-person instruction. Must be able to sit for extended periods while working at a computer or grading papers, and the ability to stand for longer durations while lecturing in a classroom. Must have the ability to speak clearly and audibly to deliver lectures, facilitate classroom discussions and interact with students and colleagues. Must have the ability to move around campus to attend meetings and teach in different classrooms. Minimal lifting may be involved for tasks such as carrying materials to class or moving books.
