A clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on developing next-generation siRNA therapeutics for cardiovascular and metabolic diseases is seeking an accomplished and strategic Head of Biology & Drug Discovery to build and lead a multidisciplinary biology organization focused on the discovery, characterization, and advancement of novel RNA-based therapeutics.This individual will oversee in vitro and in vivo pharmacology, translational biology, target identification and validation, biomarker strategy, and candidate selection activities across a growing pipeline. The successful candidate will play a central leadership role in shaping portfolio strategy, advancing discovery programs through IND/CTA-enabling studies, and contributing to corporate growth initiatives.The ideal candidate is a collaborative and scientifically rigorous leader with demonstrated success building high-performing teams and advancing innovative therapeutics from concept through clinical development in fast-paced biotech environments.ResponsibilitiesPartner closely with executive leadership to define and execute scientific and translational strategy across discovery and preclinical development programsBuild, lead, and mentor a high-performing biology organization spanning pharmacology, translational biology, mechanistic studies, biomarker strategy, and candidate profilingDrive identification, evaluation, validation, and prioritization of novel therapeutic targets across multiple disease areasLead discovery-stage strategy and execution from target selection through candidate nomination and IND/CTA-enabling studiesOversee development and implementation of robust in vitro and in vivo pharmacology assays supporting mechanism-of-action, efficacy, PK/PD, and translational studiesGuide design and interpretation of animal studies including efficacy, biodistribution, tolerability, and translational pharmacologyLead data-driven candidate selection and portfolio prioritization decisionsCollaborate cross-functionally with chemistry, delivery, toxicology, CMC, clinical, regulatory, and program management teamsSupport external innovation, diligence, partnerships, and business development activitiesEstablish and manage relationships with CROs, academic collaborators, and key opinion leadersFoster a culture of scientific excellence, innovation, accountability, and collaborationRecruit, develop, and retain top scientific talentQualificationsPhD, MD, or equivalent advanced degree in pharmacology, molecular biology, translational medicine, genetics, or related discipline12+ years of biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry experience with significant leadership responsibilityDemonstrated success advancing therapeutics from discovery through IND/CTA and into early clinical developmentDeep expertise in translational biology, pharmacology, target identification and validation, biomarker development, and oligonucleotide therapeuticsStrong understanding of RNAi, siRNA design, delivery technologies, and preclinical development strategiesProven ability to build, lead, and inspire multidisciplinary scientific teamsExperience presenting to executive leadership, Boards, investors, and external collaboratorsStrong business acumen and experience supporting strategic partnerships and external innovation initiativesExcellent communication, organizational, and operational leadership skillsEntrepreneurial mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environmentPreferred QualificationsPrior experience in siRNA or oligonucleotide therapeutic developmentExperience across cardiovascular, metabolic, hepatic, renal, or inflammatory disease areasExperience with GalNAc-siRNA or extrahepatic delivery technologiesFamiliarity with regulatory expectations for oligonucleotide therapeutics and translational biomarker strategiesThe anticipated salary range for this position is $300,000 – $350,000 annually. Actual compensation may vary based on factors including experience, qualifications, skills, and geographic location.
