The District celebrates and embraces differences and strives to dismantle exclusion, bias, racism, and prejudice of all forms.Position: Secondary Special Education Teacher - CTPurpose: Under the general supervision of the Building Administrators, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, diverse, culturally safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parent(s)/guardian(s) and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.Compensation/Pay Range: $44,500 (negotiable based on experience)BenefitsQualifies for District contribution to Health/Vision and/or Dental InsuranceYes NoQualifies for Paid Personal TimeYes NoQualifies for Paid Sick TimeYes NoQualifies for Paid Vacation TimeYes NoSchedule: Full-time Part-time10-month (works student calendar)12-monthPaid hours/day: 7 hour 40 minute day including a duty free lunch of 35 minutesEssential FunctionsDevelops and administers school curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectivesPromotes a classroom environment that is diverse and culturally safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learningDevelops lesson plans and instructional materials according to NYS StandardsConducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as neededInstructs students in the principles of the "Spartan Way" and other subject mattersContinues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending professional development opportunitiesOrganizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable lawsEncourages parent(s)/guardian(s) involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and familiesEnsures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroomCoordinates with other professional staff members to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committeesSelects and requests appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory recordsParticipates in Committee in Special Education meetings and assists in developing Individual Educational Plans ("IEP") for studentsAssists students and teaching staff in implementing students' IEP's and behavior management plansSupervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportationAdministers standardized tests in accordance with District testing programsAdditional DutiesPerforms other related tasks as assigned by the Administrator and other district office administrators.Note: The above description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities.
