Math Tutor

Job Description: On-Campus Math Tutor (part-time) Overview: The mission of Sojourner Truth PCS is to empower students to transform the world. Students at Truth will graduate ready for success in college, career, and life. They will serve as active agents in the construction of peace. They will know who they are, what they want, and where they are going. They can walk into any space, find their place, and make a powerful contribution. Truth achieves this vision through a Montessori education built upon student-led classrooms with a learning environment deliberately designed to enable student engagement in meaningful, authentic work and to foster a close-knit community where students pursue justice and practice stewardship. During SY2024-25, Truth serves a diverse population of 6th-11th grade students in Washington, DC, and will grow to become a 6th-12th grade school next year. Position: Sojourner Truth PCS is seeking a part-time Math tutor to work in small groups with 9th through 11th grade students in Algebra I & II and Geometry. Tutoring will take place during the school day M-F, between 8:15 a.m. to 300pm, and each tutor can work about 15 hours per week. Hours are flexible depending on the tutor's availability. Position pays $23 per hour. The tutor, like all other staff, should be fully invested in Truth’s two Design Principles: (1) Students need to be prepared for life, not just for school. (2) Each student’s identity, voice, perspectives, and choices matter. Responsibilities: One-on-one student support The tutor may work with students in classrooms or outside the classroom in designated study areas. The tutor should be confident and capable of supporting students through high school math standards Collaboration Tutors will be in direct communication with Truth’s Math teachers around current classwork and relevant material for support Qualifications: Eagerness to reliably be on campus to support students on the agreed-upon schedule Current college junior/senior or recent college graduate Enthusiasm for building positive relationships with a diverse group of students Motivated by Truth’s mission Job Type: Part-time Pay: $23.00 per hour Work Location: In person
