Senior Chemist
JOB PURPOSEProvide senior analytical, method development, data integration and interpretation support for our petroleum geochemistry laboratory.QHSSERequired to follow all QHSSE and Compliance policies and procedures and complete training by using all systems as defined by Stratum Reservoir. You are responsible for creating opportunities for improvement, report and investigate incidents, non-conformances, and operative issues. Employees must submit STAR cards and report any risks identified on the job. Participation in meetings and general activities created to help in preventing risks is required. The employee is responsible to stop the job and assess whether the conditions are safe to continue work. If applicable, must be responsible for completing all required QHSSE and Compliance reporting. Duties and Responsibilities:Analyze petroleum/geological samples to determine properties and composition (petroleum fluids, produced waters, geologic samples, etc.)Process analytical chemistry data while implementing robust QAQC protocols when evaluating data outputs and instrument performance.Keep detailed records of all tests to ensure all results and observations are preserved, making sure that data is accurately recorded in accordance with established data management guidelines and policies.Bring established industry methods online (ASTM, EPA, GPA, etc.), design and implement robust strategies for new method development and execution.Train and support junior Chemists, Analysts and Technicians in day-to-day operations.Support and collaborate with internal and external chemists and scientific experts.Liaise with customers, suppliers, and research/scientific staff.Prepare reports and present results, internally or externally, as needed.Perform research, draft scientific posters and/or publications, and present findings at tradeshows and customer engagements.Keep up to date with scientific and technical developments in the field of analytical chemistry and petroleum geochemistry.Suggest and implement improvements to laboratory operations, procedures and methods.Design and/or support comprehensive analytical and interpretive projects; engage with customers during design and data delivery phases.Work to enhance and modernize data deliverables.Proficient use of various inventory management, LIMS, and project productivity tools and resources.Adhere to timelines and deadlines for experiment results and data delivery.Create contingency plans for unforeseen circumstances.Support proficiency training and assessment strategies in alignment with ISO Standards (9001, 17025, etc.).Support ISO Audit operations with facility and/or regional QHSSE staff.Skills and KnowledgeTheoretical knowledge and practical experience with various wet chemistry and analytical techniques (extraction, 1D/2D GC, GC-MS, GC-MS/MS, HPLC, etc.)An integrated understanding of the geological elements and temporal processes that govern hydrocarbon generation, migration, accumulation, and preservation within a basin.Knowledge of petroleum/geological sample composition and characteristics.Ability to develop and validate new methods.Apply logical/critical thinking skills to numerical and analytical processes.Use a systematic approach to address tasks and solve complex problems.Excellent communication and IT skills to develop presentations and foster teamwork.Desired Skills and KnowledgeExperience implementing AI/ML-based strategies to enhance data processing and interpretive workflows.Experience with various environmental chemistry workflows and methods.Experience bringing new methods and techniques online to expand laboratory service options.Software development and coding experience (R, Python, etc.).Qualifications and ExperienceMaster of Science (MSc) in Analytical Chemistry, Petroleum Geochemistry, or similar field.5+ years working in an analytical chemistry laboratory.Experience with various operational and productivity software solutions (inventory management, LIMS, MS Office, etc.).
