Temple Sinai Transitional Leader Position Job DescriptionTemple Sinai, a warm and inclusive Reform Jewish congregation in West Houston, invites applications for the position of Transitional Leader (Rabbi and/or Cantor). This is a unique opportunity for an ordained rabbi or cantor to lead a vibrant, diverse congregation of approximately 140 member families. Temple Sinai takes pride in its 46-year legacy of spirited Jewish life, musical worship, and an open, intergenerational community that includes interfaith families, LGBTQIA and BIPOC members. We are a friendly and caring community where joyful tradition blends with a forward-looking spirit of renewal.This is presently a part-time role, with meaningful potential for growth into a full-time leadership position as Temple Sinai’s membership grows and our community continues to flourish. The ideal candidate will be an innovative partner, passionate about musical and spiritual inspiration, who empowers others through humility and vision.Key Responsibilities:Lead or co-lead meaningful Shabbat, high holy day, festival, holiday and life cycle services, fostering broad participation, musical engagement, and spirited worship as a central feature of Temple Sinai life.Serve as religious school advisor, providing guidance on educational activities of the congregation.Build authentic relationships across all generations, with a focus on youth engagement and nurturing lifelong Jewish identity.Collaborate with board members, staff, Hebrew teachers, and lay leaders to sustain growth and deepen the congregation’s communal and spiritual life.Serve as a compassionate counselor, educator, and mentor, offering support and guidance through all life stages.Qualities Sought:Ordination as a rabbi and/or cantor Ability to lead musical worship and inspire participation.Warm, approachable, friendly, and sincerely engaged with congregants.Collaborative, energetic, and willing to work in partnership with lay and professional leadership.A communicator who is open, transparent, humble, and eager to help the congregation flourish well into the future.We look forward to offering the right candidate a chance to join a dynamic community that is ready to honor the past, embrace the future, and celebrate our Jewish life.
