District Partners has been exclusively engaged by a privately held organization to identify a Controller who will lead all accounting and financial operations for the business. This is a highly visible, hands-on role serving as the senior-most finance professional, partnering directly with leadership to drive financial accuracy, reporting, and operational efficiency.This individual will own the full accounting function while overseeing a part-time Staff Accountant supporting transactional activities.Position OverviewThe Controller will be responsible for end-to-end financial management, including accounting, reporting, payroll, benefits administration, and compliance. This role requires a strong operator who is comfortable working independently, managing day-to-day execution, and providing actionable financial insights to leadership.What You'll Do:Accounting & Financial ReportingLead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processesPrepare internal financial statements and reporting packagesAnalyze financial performance, including margins, cost trends, and project-level profitabilityDevelop short- and long-term cash flow forecastsPartner with external accounting firm on annual reviews and tax filingsAccounts Payable & Expense ManagementOversee vendor invoice processing and weekly payment cyclesManage credit card reconciliations and expense reporting (SAP Concur)Review and approve AP batches prior to leadership submissionProcess employee expense reimbursementsAccounts Receivable & BillingManage invoicing for service contracts and project-based workTrack receivables and lead collections effortsPartner with operations to align billing with contract milestonesPayroll & Benefits AdministrationOwn full payroll cycle (bi-weekly) including review, deductions, and tax complianceAdminister 401(k) contributions and company matchManage health benefits enrollment, renewals, and employee changesPartner with brokers on annual benefits renewals and plan analysisTreasury & Cash ManagementPerform bank reconciliations and monitor daily cash positionManage payment timing and liquidity planningCoordinate banking relationships, including standby letters of creditCompliance & Corporate OperationsEnsure compliance with local, state, and regulatory requirementsManage annual filings, insurance renewals, and COI requestsSupport audit preparation and external reporting requirementsSystems & Process ImprovementMaintain and optimize accounting and financial systemsIdentify and implement process improvements across finance operationsUtilize tools including QuickBooks Online, ADP Workforce Now, SAP Concur, and Microsoft 365What You'll Have:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilityPrior experience in a Controller or Senior Accountant capacityStrong understanding of payroll and benefits administration (ADP experience preferred)Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Excel; experience with SAP Concur a plusExperience in project-based or construction accounting environments preferredAbility to operate independently in a hands-on environmentStrong communication skills with the ability to interface across all levels of the organization
