Assistant Controller
Assistant ControllerThe ComTran Group, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Controller to support the Controller in overseeing the company's accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, and compliance functions. ComTran is a fiber and utility construction contractor, and this role is central to managing the financial complexities of project-based work in a fast-moving construction environment.This position plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, managing month-end close processes, supporting strategic financial initiatives, and supervising accounting staff. The Assistant Controller will also serve as backup to the Controller when needed.Responsibilities include:Processing weekly payrollAssisting in managing daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, credit card receipt management, and job costingSupporting month-end and year-end closing processes to ensure timely and accurate reportingMaintaining and improving internal controls and accounting proceduresEnsuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), company policies, and applicable regulationsAnalyzing financial data and providing recommendations to improve operational efficiency and profitabilitySupervising and mentoring accounting staff, providing training and performance feedbackParticipating in system implementations, process improvements, and special projectsServing as backup to the Controller for financial reporting and department leadershipQualifications include:Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferredExperience: 3+ years of progressive accounting experience; construction or project-based accounting experience strongly preferred; fiber, telecom, or utility construction experience is a plusKnowledge, Skills & Abilities: Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements; experience with month-end close processes; proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems (Viewpoint Spectrum preferred); strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills; excellent communication and interpersonal abilities; ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment; high level of integrity and attention to detailPhysical Requirements: Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods; occasional lifting of materials up to 15 pounds; ability to travel occasionally, if requiredBenefits include:401(k) with company matchingWeekly payHealth, dental, and vision insuranceHealth savings account (HSA) and flexible spending account (FSA)Life insuranceEmployee assistance programPaid time offEqual Opportunity EmployerAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment and will not be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin or ancestry, sex (including gender, pregnancy, sexual orientation, and/or gender identity), age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, and/or any other basis protected by applicable federal, state or local law.
