Accounting Specialist
Accounting SpecialistA well-established California law firm is seeking an Accounting Specialist to join its Finance team. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong payroll and accounts payable experience who thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. The Accounting Specialist will play a key role in supporting financial operations, ensuring accurate payroll processing, managing vendor payments, and maintaining compliance with firm policies.Responsibilities:Process semi-monthly and off-cycle payroll using the firm's HRIS (Dayforce)Ensure accurate calculation of wages, deductions, and withholdingsProcess wage garnishments, levies, and other court-ordered paymentsReview timesheets for accuracy prior to payroll processingMaintain and update employee payroll records, including terminations and status changesResolve payroll and benefits discrepancies and respond to employee inquiriesMaintain payroll documentation and ensure compliance with internal controlsGenerate and provide monthly payroll reports to managementMaintain strict confidentiality regarding employee compensation and sensitive HR mattersProcess daily accounts payable and review vendor invoicesSet up and maintain vendor accountsReconcile expense reports and credit card statements for attorneys and staffEnsure compliance with firm expense policiesPrepare and issue payments, including vendor and trust checksObtain required approvals and signatures for paymentsSupport month-end and year-end accounting close processesAssist with financial reporting and accounting department projectsMaintain accuracy and attention to detail under tight deadlinesCollaborate with attorneys, staff, vendors, and leadershipProvide support for other accounting and finance functions as neededQualifications:Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent work experience5+ years of progressively responsible experience in payroll and accounts payableExperience in a law firm or professional services environment preferredExperience with accounting systems such as SurePoint preferredStrong understanding of payroll processes, compliance, and internal controlsHigh level of integrity and ability to maintain strict confidentialityStrong organizational and multitasking skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environmentStrong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with attorneys, staff, and vendorsProficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting systemsWork Environment:Onsite role based in Oakland, CA with hybrid flexibility after probationary periodFast-paced, collaborative finance and accounting environmentRequires reliability, accuracy, and ability to meet strict deadlinesBenefits:Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance401(k) Retirement PlanHealth Savings Account (HSA) & Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)Paid Time OffProfessional Development OpportunitiesAdditional firm-sponsored benefits
