Director of Elementary Afterschool Programs

Principal Responsibilities:PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:Be Me Afterschool is an inclusive program servicing elementary-age children in the Upper Manhattan area. In partnerships with local schools, Be Me provides transportation to the Y for an afternoon of enrichment activities. Based on the Y's five neighborhood model, Play, Create, Discover, Explore, and Grow, participants get to choose their own program at afterschool.Camp Twelve Trails serves children ages 5 - 16 at the Y's campgrounds in Rockland County. Camp Twelve Trails is both a specialty camp and a traditional day camp program. It is comprised of the five Neighborhoods: Play, Create, Explore, Discover, and Grow that allow campers to strengthen their skills in their preferred specialty while encouraging them to explore new areas.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Oversee all aspects of administrative and day-to-day operations for after-school programs, including but not limited to:Maintaining the database and ensuring that all required registration, health, and program paperwork is completed and up-to-date for all participantsCreating and updating rosters for bussing, homeroom, activity periods, and late careCreating a monthly newsletter showcasing program highlights and important datesEnsuring the safety of all afterschool participantsSupervising all after-school program staffManaging data tracking systems for enrollment and daily attendanceCoordinating communication of absences, special programming, and other updates with familiesMonitoring and maintaining all program inventory, and placing supply orders when neededManaging data collection and reporting for the CACFP grantOverseeing the purchase of snacks and the creation of the weekly snack menuConducting all dismissal procedures dailyEnsure the program is in compliance with DOH SACC requirements and guidelinesManage program staff hiring and any staff changes, such as position transfers and salary updates, as needed to ensure program successOversee lesson planning for group leader-led activities and support the activity specialist in curriculum developmentIntegrate the Y's universal Jewish values and its connection to Israel in all programs where appropriatePlan and implement monthly staff professional development, along with regular staff meetings and coaching sessionsOrganize and execute special events, including activity planning, material ordering, facilities management, and schedulingAssist in planning and implementation of Fall and Spring ShowcasesImplement Program Quality AssessmentsMaintain room cleanliness after use for after-school programsSupervise campers as necessary for Camp Twelve TrailsSupervise camp staff as necessary for Camp Twelve TrailsCommunicate with camper parents and guardians for Camp Twelve Trails when necessaryAssist the camp director with any other duties as assignedPerform other duties as assignedCOMPENSATION & BENEFITS:Compensation range of $70,000-$80,000.Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) and competitive benefits package: Health Insurance; Retirement Plan, Optional 403b Plan, Life Insurance, Flexible Spending Account, Commuter Benefit Plan, and Y Fitness Center Membership.Minimum Qualifications:QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESBachelor's degree required; master's degree preferredAt least three years of director experience requiredMust have excellent time management skills, be flexible, be a team player, be open to feedback, be creative, and have excellent organizational skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsComputer literacy, including experience with Google Workspace applicationsWilling to work some evenings and Sundays as neededPOSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORKFull-time, in-person, FLSA Exempt position.September-June: Monday-Friday 10:00-6:30, with some Sundays or Saturdays as neededJuly and August: Monday-Friday 8:00- 5:30 onsite at Camp Twelve Trails; additional hours may be required during the summer seasonWORK AUTHORIZATION & CLEARANCEDocumentation of U.S. citizenship or eligibility to work in the U.S.Must pass the background check, medical tests, fingerprinting through the Department of Health, and other pre-employment requirements.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
