Conditions of employment adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.General SummaryUnder general supervision, the teacher is responsible for developing in each pupil an appreciation of the art of music as part of the general culture; to teach techniques of instrumental music expression; to discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of music; to develop knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music; to develop talents and skills in performance. In collaboration with feeder system band directors, supports the high school band program as associate band director.Essential FunctionsSupports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One towards increased outcomes for students.Interacts, communicates and collaborates with all stakeholders effectively.Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive working and learning environment.Operates general office and technology equipment needed for daily activities.Maintains confidentiality regarding all employee and student information.Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required.Requests and maintains materials needed for daily responsibilities and essential functions; provides for safe storage and proper use of all tools, equipment and materials.Supervises students in classroom activities and in other areas as assigned; maintains positive behavior support and classroom management systems.Demonstrates characteristics of the Lexington One Graduate Profile to foster independent, creative, critical thinkers and problem solvers.Designs and facilitates engaging, high level, sophisticated learning experiences and applications.Prepares various records and forms such as lesson plans, daily and weekly activity plans, tests, purchase orders, inventories of music equipment, instruments, and music.Teaches skills in music appreciation, harmony, and explorations in instrumental music to students.Assists with the performance of various instruments when necessary.Evaluates students using summative and formative assessments.Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, musical performances, and trips.Maintains attendance and grade records as required by the school board.Evaluates each student's musical growth and performance, assessing each individual's contribution to the performance of the group. Provides feedback to assist students in developing instrumental skills.Cooperates with school administration in providing musical programs for school productions, graduation ceremonies, and civic functions.Develops and supervises booster organizations involving parents, students, and the community if requested/required.Teaches courses outside of the band specialization area if required (guitar, music appreciation, etc.).Participate in individual and group SCBDA activities (region band, allstate, CPA, solo/ensemble) with students as applicable.Effectively uses personal technology devices and software applications for the management of pertinent information and communication.Performs other job-related duties as assignedEssential Functions Assistant Band DirectorProvides support to high school marching band programs as outlined below, including but not limited to 20 compensated supplemental days.Prepare students and participate in all of the following:Assist with the direction of the high school marching and concert bands which includes:Establishing performance requirements and expectationsBand instruction and student supervisionAssisting with extracurricular activities of the marching band such as band camp, football games, after school rehearsals and Saturday competitions.Plan and utilize instructional learning strategies that meet the needs of all students in the ensembles.Create and maintain a safe environment conducive to learning and appropriate for all students.Demonstrate regular, consistent, and prompt attendance.Maintain a professional relationship with others.Comply with district policies in all circumstances.Work with the high school director to maintain equipment and inventories.Work with colleagues within the feeder pattern to develop and implement a recruiting plan.Supervisory ResponsibilityResponsible for classroom materials, instrument inventory and supplies budget. Supervises students in classrooms and other instructional settings.OTHER SKILLS And ABILITIESAbility to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Lexington County School District One Board policies. Must be able to access reliable transportation.Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the school district that pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of school policies, procedures, and operations. Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation, and utilization of equipment, materials, and supplies used in daily activities. Ability to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, co-workers, teachers, students, and the general public.Personal computer experience required. Strong knowledge of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, electronic file management, the internet, and reporting and presentation software. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to apply knowledge and current research and theory. Ability to organize and implement a flexible work schedule in order to meet reporting deadlines. Ability to self-monitor and manage multiple tasks while working individually and with members of a group. Ability to submit all requested reports and documentation in a timely manner and in accordance with scheduled deadlines. Some extended hours and multiple demands from several people are frequently required of the employee.
